Job Description:
The Group Customer | Disability Solutions & Shared Services department is looking for a Reporting and End User Computing (EUC) Tools Assistant Manager whose analytical mind and curious nature can lead a team through the utilization of a variety of system development tools and data sources to build and maintain operational and ad hoc reports as well as EUC tools.

As a leader of the Reporting and EUC Tools team you will use your leadership capabilities, analytical skills, technical abilities and critical thinking mindset to prioritize and manage the work done by the team, as well give direction on technical design and approach. With a continuous improvement mindset, you will refine existing reports and tools and explore new techniques to support the organization’s management team.

This role requires:

  • A high degree of innovation
    • The increasing availability of data and business intelligence/visualization toolset requires new methodologies for solving ‘age old’ questions. The individual will be required to think outside the box and determine if there are opportunities to enhance current operational reporting and EUCs using new technology
    • Project work often requires new tools which will benefit from a well thought-out and managed approach
  • Technical Know-How
    • The use of many different tools, software, programming languages and techniques; some of which may be new or emerging. The individual will need a working knowledge of many of these to best support the team to execute on the required tasks or projects
  • Project Management
    • A high proportion of the team’s work is project work. The leader will mentor and manage the team via project management tools including project charters, project plans, identification and adherence to milestones, and effective communication with stakeholders and sponsors
  • Problem Solving
    • Solve a variety of different problems, including business leader ad hoc questions, technical challenges and data limitations. Using their knowledge and expertise, the individual will need to think critically through these challenges and apply the appropriate solution
  • Collaboration
    • The leader will not only work with their Reporting and EUC Tool team, but also need to collaborate with business leaders, subject matter experts, and stakeholders and to support Group Customer technology driven projects as well as support departmental partners
  • Data and Business SME knowledge
    • The leader will need to develop subject matter expertise on the data produced by an array of systems as well as how the data is used to manage the operational teams. Data knowledge needs to cover: claim and reserve data, enrollment and group policy data, operations management data, etc.


RESPONSIBILITIES
:

Leadership + Management:
  • People leader for a portion of the team
  • Prioritize work, ensure timely delivery of quality work
  • Provide guidance and support to the team
  • Set standards and enable the use of applicable tools, techniques, technologies, and templates which help ensure relevance, timeliness and quality of the work delivered
  • Set the standard with the work you deliver (opportunity to do hands on work)
  • Management reporting on work and productivity of the team
Operational Reporting:
  • Lead resources responsible for providing regular and ad hoc reporting
    • Work with Group Customer Division partners to leverage various data sources and provide operational reporting
    • Complete complex reporting projects based on management requirements to manage the claim solutions business


Solution Delivery: End User Computing Tool Development and Maintenance:
  • Partner with business leaders and actively seek out and identify areas of opportunity to provide EUC solutions
    • Work with business stakeholders to deeply understand needs and guide decisions on scope
  • Utilize project management skills to plan, execute and deliver on a variety of EUC and reporting projects
    • Provide leadership on design to align with our common patterns (re-use, maintainability)
    • Provide technical advice on tools and approaches (stay current with new innovations)
    • Follow a product lifecycle to design, develop and maintain dashboards and EUCs
  • Become a subject matter expert in the data produced by our operational teams
    • Maintain and improve the quality of our data by performing data profiling on key data sources
    • Provide guidance and recommendation on the development of new data sources that would be used by multiple teams across the division
    • Partner with other technical teams across the division to support Divisional data initiatives


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5+ years in related field of applied problem solving, decision-making, reporting and EUC development experience
  • Post-Secondary education with a familiarity with system development, or statistical/business concepts, or equivalent experience
  • Expertise or experience with Data Reporting, Data Visualization and EUC Development tools such as: VBA, SQL, C#, PHP, HTML, Power BI
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Microsoft Excel, Access and Powerpoint
  • Experience in planning and managing projects
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks with changing priorities
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with ability to tailor message to the audience
  • Experience managing a team is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of group insurance and the disability and health and dental products is considered an asset
