DUTIES
The University and Employment Preparation Department, in the Faculty of Education and Social Work, invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Teaching Professor. University preparation provides an opportunity for students to obtain pre-university prerequisites for many programs at TRU and elsewhere and/or obtain an Adult Graduation Diploma. The successful candidate will teach Adult Basic Education (ABE) science courses in the department including general science, biology, chemistry, and physics.
It is expected that the successful candidate will implement the use of sound teaching methods, develop and implement clear learning objectives/outcomes in lecture and labs, and maintain and create quality and safe learning environments. The successful candidate will also share responsibility in ensuring that our courses are articulated with the BC ABE Science Articulation Committee. The successful candidate will contribute to a positive workplace culture. The position will require service to the department, faculty, TRU and the wider community. Engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning is expected.

• Master’s degree in a relevant field required
• At least one degree in one of the disciplines to be taught (biology, chemistry or physics) required
• Teaching Certificate or Instructor’s Diploma or 5 years teaching experience in ABE plus evidence of engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning required
• Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in ABE science courses, including laboratory teaching, required
• Experience teaching students whose educational, social, and economic backgrounds are diverse, and for whom previous school experience may have been challenging, required
• Demonstrated evidence of scholarly teaching required
• Skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) preferred
• Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) preferred
• Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) preferred
