We are currently seeking a Corporate Strategy Associate to join the Corporate Strategy team to help deliver on that ambition. Our team works closely with the Executive Committee (ExCo) to help answer many of their most challenging strategic questions. Our team is a nimble group of 3, which means you will get the opportunity to work on a wide variety of strategic opportunities and challenges, working collaboratively with subject matter experts from across NOVA Chemicals.

This position is located at our NOVA Head Office (NHO) in downtown Calgary, Alberta.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:
Facilitate development of enterprise-wide corporate strategy, inclusive of NOVA Chemicals’ Vision & Mission, in partnership with the CEO, ExCo, and the Board of Directors
Play a key role in helping to design and deliver major strategic initiatives critical to achieving our broader ambition in becoming a leader in sustainable and responsible plastics, e.g., through decarbonizing our operations, improving plastics recycling, and new product development/entry into sustainability-linked end-use markets
Support corporate strategy execution through the design and implementation of effective governance and performance management frameworks
Keep a keen eye on broader market developments and competitor activity to help inform decisions around NOVA Chemicals’ strategic positioning
Contribute to/support long-term asset planning, in partnership with business units, asset managers and Finance, for a strategic overlay to our long-term asset and capital planning
Work closely with NOVA Chemicals’ corporate development team to explore inorganic opportunities to accelerate delivery of NOVA Chemicals’ broader strategy and key strategic initiatives
Analyze and develop detailed financial models including projections, valuations, investment return analyses, debt impacts and corporate models
Assist in the preparation and development of business cases/plans, and identify new commercial opportunities
Bring conceptual clarity to ambiguity, through structured problem solving, and applying and creating frameworks for analyzing strategic opportunities and challenges that exist for NOVA Chemicals
Convey complex and ambiguous opportunities/challenges into key conclusions and recommendations, through:
Assisting in running the business analytics including problem framing, developing business forecasts, identifying risks, scenario analysis, etc.
Analyzing and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative data and information from a variety of sources;
Creatively conveying insights through data and analysis (charts, tables, other visuals)
Articulating the narrative and key tradeoffs/decision points through impactful presentations
Assist with facilitating workshops, and analyzing and summarizing input from leaders across the organization

What We Are Looking For:
University graduate or equivalent with 8+ years related experience with 3-5 years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, equity research, or strategy-related work
Completion of an MBA or CFA designation is preferred
Experience with conducting structured qualitative analysis and solving ambiguous problems
Exceptional analytic and quantitative problem-solving skills
Strong foundation in financial analysis and experience with financial models
Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively (verbally, visually and in writing)
Experience presenting to various levels and writing reports for executive leadership
Motivated and ambitious, eager to learn, and thrives in ambiguity
Demonstrated ability to role model independent thinking and innovative ideas
Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail
Proven ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team-oriented environment

Relocation will be considered for this position
Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
This role requires up to 0-10% travel
