THE ROLE:

We are expanding our Production Services team and have an opportunity for an Automation and Control Systems Project Specialist, located in Calgary. Reporting to the Process Controls and Automation Lead, the successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be the safety, reliability, troubleshooting and change management of the company’s Operational Technology (OT) systems. In this role, you will work closely with field and remote operations teams to troubleshoot issues pertaining to operational technology systems and to implement reliability improvements. You will also work closely with Facilities, Operations, and Production Engineering teams to ensure the reliability of industrial infrastructure solutions that underpin the Company’s long term development plans in providing clean Canadian energy to the world. Travel to our operations in the Fort St. John, BC will be required.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
  • Coordinate resources, plan and schedule for the automation, controls and instrumentation scope of capital projects
  • Provide design input to new projects, participate in scope setting, detailed design, and design review sessions
  • Configure and/or oversee configuration of operational technology components such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Remote Telemetry Units (RTUs), SCADA radios, and SCADA systems
  • Build, oversee and execute assurance and validation processes for control systems including loop checks, shutdown checks and functionality checks
  • Develop and implement acceptance and handover procedures for process control systems
  • Implement process safety management system components (i.e. alarm management) for new projects
  • Facilitate design and implementation of systems for transfer of process and measurement data between operational technology and business systems
  • Plan and implement automation and controls reliability and optimization initiatives to reduce the frequency and severity of system outages and issues
  • Assist with risk assessments and root cause failure analysis processes
  • Provide on-call support outside of business hours for high priority issues
  • Model and promote safe behaviors in all work environments in accordance with health and safety regulations, corporate policies, procedures and guidelines
WHAT YOU BRING:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree within an electrical, automation, process control, computer/systems or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience planning and executing control systems projects
  • Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley control systems and Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Previous exposure to Management of Change (MOC) frameworks
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, multi-task while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience programming Emerson Remote Telemetry Units (ROC/FlowBoss) and/or Emerson DeltaV process control systems is an asset
  • Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) driver’s license with a clean abstract
  • A valid certification, or the ability to obtain H2S and First Aid
