We're looking for a skilled and motivated Automation Engineer who is highly technical and is responsible for developing, coordinating, qualifying, and supervising the design, construction, functionality, and buy-off of Automated assembly equipment. In addition, will be required to diagnose, analyze, and recommend solutions for tooling/processing concerns. A strong background in pneumatics, hydraulics, fixture, trimming of multiple materials with an emphasis on design is required. Duties will include understanding product requirements, preparing RFQs based on conceptual designs and sequence of operations, and communicating technical information to suppliers. Working knowledge and understanding of photoelectric sensors, vision sensors, variable frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, sensors and switches, human-machine interface panels, robotics, servo motors and machine safety systems. This position will require about 50% travel to local and over sea’s tooling sources.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze and interpret concepts and needs of programs to implement the automation line required to support the development of new products and existing products
  • Development and implementation of mechanical systems for assembly/manufacture of various automotive processes
  • Continuously improve all aspects of product development related to design, tool award, buy-off and installation at the manufacturing plant
  • Responsible for quoting and implementation of all engineering changes as it relates to secondary tools
  • Responsible for supporting the new business quoting process with tooling cost and manufacturing process flow
  • Perform and lead the design, installation, programming, maintenance and troubleshooting activities for the new and existing automation systems
  • Programming and troubleshooting on automation systems, process control systems
  • Generate concepts for improvement projects, including measurement of benefits and development of project cost/benefit analyses
  • Devising new approaches to problems, preparing or modifying drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitoring work for compliance with applicable codes
  • Identify the process improvement opportunities using existing and new processes, and initialize, coordinate projects
  • Through consistent use of our Code of Conduct foster a spirit of teamwork, responsibility and cooperation with Suppliers and Customers and throughout the Company
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity in dealings with employees, customers, vendors, and members of the general public
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks including setting priorities for task execution

  • Document the open issues and lessons learned
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates Engineering Degree preferred as a minimum or equivalent educational background/experience
  • Minimum 5 years relevant work experience including manufacturing processing/ tool work
  • 3D CAD experience is a plus
  • Robotics experience preferred, Kuka, Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, Nachi
  • Good experience with PLC’s/HMI’s, servo drives, VFDs
  • Working knowledge of GD&T
  • Proven experience with handling multiple complex projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficient planning and organization/work management skills
  • Results-oriented/self-starter
  • Familiarity with PC based programs ( Windows, Excel, Word, Spinfire ,PPT)
  • Problem assessment and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work non-traditional work hours as needed.
