Your Contribution

As an Automotive Accessibility Technician, you will play a key role in the adaptation and modification of vehicles to make them accessible for our customers:

  • Routine maintenance on vehicles with lifts, hand controls, conversions, etc.
  • Fabrication on items unique to medical equipment industry
  • Ensure manufacturers’ guidelines and specifications are adhered to and that equipment is safe to operate
  • Contact manufacturers for assistance for repair guidance
  • Troubleshoot for hand controls, vehicle chair lifts, seatbelts, weight tests, turney test and seat play, etc.
  • Check slack on hand controls
  • Check cruise in the rails, fans, radio, heater, windows tail lights
  • Take incoming calls and walk-in clients as well as inform clients on any issues with their equipment/vehicle
  • Ensure that quality control checks done on all repairs
  • Communicate with Service Writers about repair status
  • Ensure there is sufficient stock of parts, including ordering parts for work orders
  • Clean vehicles (vacuum), remove things that are not supposed to be there and leave pamphlets
  • Keep work area neat, clean and free of clutter
  • Assist the sales department with any problems relating to automotive accessibility equipment
  • Display respectful behaviour at all times to employees, clients, managers and stakeholders
  • When running the vehicle, listen closely and look at every movement. Have to understand what should be working and how
  • Fill out NMEDA paperwork
  • Outside service calls and some overnight travel may be required

Your Qualifications

  • Familiarity with automotive vehicles
  • Familiarity with 12 volt DC electrical systems
  • Knowledge of Hybrid/battery powered vehicles would be an asset
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication would be an asset
  • Fabrication, electronics, construction or technical experience would be an asset
  • Ability to read and write instructional plans
  • Proficient with all types of power tools
  • Ability to work outside and some overnight travel
  • Clean drivers abstract and a valid class 5 or higher license
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and use ladders
  • Proficient with office 365 products
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Clear communication and a positive attitude
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot mechanical issues
  • Excellent time management capabilities and flexibility
  • Welding experience would be considered an asset
  • High-school diploma required
  • Some post secondary training in mechanics preferred
  • A criminal record check may be required
