Bayfield Treatment Centres, a private rural treatment facility for youth located in picturesque Prince Edward County, is seeking applications for the position of Behavioural Therapist. This is a temporary position (12-18 months) for 40 hours per week.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clinical caseload of approximately 12 youth experiencing a variety of social, emotional, psychological and behavioural challenges in educational and residential settings. The Behavior Therapist will provide mental health treatment and support, with an emphasis on identifying and changing learned behaviors that may be negatively impacting the youth’s life. The role involves providing direct ABA-based intervention across environments, behvioural-based counseling, developing treatment plans, and recommending strategies to help minimize symptoms or episodes.

Essential Competencies and Responsibilities

  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior.
  • Design and implement behavior support plans and individualized intervention plans based on data collection.
  • Work closely/train direct care staff to assist in the implementation of individualized intervention plans.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and other meetings as required.
  • Liaise with family members, teachers, direct care staff and other treatment team members.
  • Collaborate with case management teams to in the development and review of Plans of Care.
  • Prepare and analyze reports, make presentations, provide training and maintain records.

Job Requirements

Related Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Written and spoken fluency in the English language. Bilingualism is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of ABA strategies will be required.
  • Ability to generate reports through a behavioural lens, using relevant ABA-based language and terminology.
  • Demonstrated abilities in working in a variety of therapeutic modalities, including use of the BST model, in addition to ABA.
  • Sound working knowledge of child development, trauma, substance abuse, human sexuality, group dynamics, child welfare legislation, as well as self-regulation and grounding techniques.
  • Ability to understand DSM diagnoses and to reflect and integrate this knowledge in the client's treatment plan.
  • Ability to understand psychometric testing results and to reflect and integrate this knowledge in the client's treatment plan.
  • Ability to offer ABA-based education and training to direct care staff, parents and/or guardians.

Required Professional and Interpersonal Qualities:

  • Emotional and social intelligence, such as being observant and self-reflective, as well as the ability to recognize one’s own biases and limitations.
  • Ability to be empathetic and to develop therapeutic alliances.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and resourcefulness.

Educational Requirements:

  • Honours Bachelor of Behavioural Psychology Degree.
  • Certification in the A.S.S.I.S.T. model of suicide prevention and intervention will be an asset.
  • The ongoing maintenance of professional competencies and certifications will be required.

Salary: $29.60-$30.91 per hour
