The Property Risk Governance Office partners with teams across TELUS in an effort to ensure that TELUS’ key property risks are effectively managed. The extended team’s mission is to systematically identify, evaluate, manage and monitor property risks that may affect the safety of the TELUS team, our network and our brand. The team strives to achieve best-in-class risk management and promote a risk intelligence culture across TELUS. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing services in the areas of property risk audits, risk mitigation/monitoring, capital loss prevention processes, property risk consulting and related risk studies.

The Property Risk Governance Office is responsible for the management of TELUS’ global property risk programs and associated risk management functions. In this single contributor role which reports to the Risk Management Director, you will influence and collaborate with external consultants and cross functional departments to achieve departmental and personal goals.

Primary responsibilities include:


  • Manage the property risk audit and the risk mitigation programs
  • Manage the TELUS capital loss prevention project delivery & quality assurance process
  • Provide day-to-day property risk consulting services to various stakeholders within TELUS, TELUS International and TELUS Partners regarding property-related risks, risk trends and mitigation strategies
  • Identify and prioritize property risks for the loss prevention capital program and operational teams
  • Work with various TELUS business units on future growth initiatives relating to property-related risks
  • Maintain and manage the TELUS Fire Protection Design Guidelines
  • Manage the TELUS fire protection systems national impairment program
  • Provide risk consulting in all aspects of building maintenance (HVAC, electrical, fire life safety, fuel, building envelope, etc.)
  • Work with property insurance companies relating to loss control issues
  • Assist in property claims investigations
  • Support the brokering of the property insurance program
  • Manage yearly service contracts with risk consultants
  • Provide quarterly mitigation metrics and risk summary reports
  • Provide oversite for additional risk studies (i.e. seismic, flood, wildfire)

You’re the missing piece of the puzzle


  • A minimum of five years of experience in property risk management with a focus on critical network facilities
  • Professional engineering degree or a Certified Engineering Technologist with a Project Management Professional designation is preferred.
  • A deep understanding of building construction, building operations, risk management principles, building codes/standards and database applications.
  • Leadership skills including coaching, program management, decision-making, strategic prioritization, and relationship building
  • Business skills including strategic planning, analytical and logic thinking, project management, capital project delivery processes, negotiation, cross-functional teamwork, knowledge of TELUS structure/systems/processes and telecom knowledge
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills are necessary to communicate with stakeholders, report on risks and mitigation measures, and negotiate risk management solutions
  • Ability to interact with senior management and stakeholders at various levels of the organization to achieve desired goals
  • Effectively manage ambiguity and continuous demands from competing/conflicting priorities and issues
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with all staff in a busy environment and handle concurrent tasks under tight deadlines
  • Ability to think creatively, stay calm under pressure and meet deadlines
  • A high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Travel will be required from time to time
