Bioinformatics Scientist / Senior Scientist

Headline: We are looking for a bioinformatics tinkerer - a creative data scientist who works well independently and has broad experience with NGS data, particularly for detecting genomic variation (think SNVs and SVs not PRS) from in house data. As the first full time bioinformatics hire, you will be instrumental in the development of Juniper. You’ll work closely with our senior assay development scientist and with our experienced founding team and advisors. This can be a fully remote or hybrid role.

What you’ll do:

  • Developing methods and approaches for the analysis of sequencing data
  • Develop key validation data and build towards reproducible workflow and pipelines
  • Identify platforms and infrastructure needed to implement and scale the bioinformatics workflows
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and synthesize and summarize results for presentations
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team in assay development to iterate and optimize

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular/Cellular biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Master’s degree with equivalent work experience
  • Experience analyzing a broad range of NGS data and building pipelines for detecting genomic variation
  • Familiarity with state of the art tools used in NGS sequence analysis, workflow management, public genomic resources and databases
  • Unix, shell scripting (eg. bash), and programming (eg, Python) skills
  • Familiarity with git version control, especially when working as part of a programming team
  • Familiarity with cloud compute and/or compute cluster environments desired, experience maintaining cloud or on-prem environments a plus
  • Attention to detail in experimental record keeping, presenting data, and data analysis
  • Experience with DNA library preparation (hands-on or in collaboration) or other wet lab molecular biology a plus
  • Experience working in entrepreneurial environments is a plus
