The mandate of the Services for Black children, Youth, and Families (SBCYF), formerlyOntarioBlack Youth Action Plan (OBYAP)- Black Enhanced (Clinical) Youth Outreach Worker works as a part of the Provincial Youth Outreach Worker team to expand the continuum of services of the Program by providing intensive one-on-one support to high-risk Black youthages12 to 25 and their families to prevent youth from further risk and or violence.

Services for Black Children, Youth, and families Black Enhanced Youth Outreach Workers work with Black youth to develop and enhance their identity, culture, and sense of belonging in their community and act as a positive factor in their movement through the Stages of Change. SBCYF-BEYOW uses culturally responsive approaches where appropriate to meet the expectation (e.g., connecting Black youth to mentors within their own communities / cultural group, encouraging youth to engage in cultural activities and events, and supporting through short-term counseling services).

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Social Work and relevant experience, or Master of Social Work, Counselling Psychology or equivalent and eligible for certification / membership in a registered professional association for practitioners in clinical therapy.
  • Experience in delivering intensive, short-term counselling and support services to Black

youth in crisis, helping them to address their specific challenges, referring andsupporting them to access required services within the city of Ottawa Demonstrated ability to support family members of high-risk Black youth, and refer them to required services Experience in managing the case plans of multiple, high-risk Black youth clients and their families

  • Strength in Partnership Building with Key Stakeholders in Ottawa and around Ontario
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and negotiate effectively with a wide range of community groups and service providers across sectors
  • Ensuring the accuracy, confidentiality and safekeeping of the data collected
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Ability to communicate in French and other African languages is an asset
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Willing and able to work various hours including evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to travel, must have a valid Driver’s License and vehicle for outreach work
  • Must obtain recent police records check for the vulnerable sector
  • Skill in establishing trusting relationships with Black youth

Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 24 per week

Salary: Up to $33.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
