First Credit Union is looking for a team-oriented individual with strong leadership skills to join our Powell River Branch as the Branch Manager. The successful candidate must commit to the service standards of First Credit Union and possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. With an extensive background in financial services, leadership experience, a desire for continuous learning, and the ability to foster business development, they will also have the ability to multi-task, stay organized, and maintain a high level of professionalism.

The Branch Manager position is responsible for meeting branch portfolio goals through the implementation of the annual business plan, as well as executing on the growth strategy and operational goals of the organization. The Branch Manager coaches and develops employees’ sales and service skills, product knowledge, and ability to improve our members’ overall financial well-being while focusing on enhancing long-term member relationships and identifying strategies to increase profits while reducing expenses. With strong leadership skills, commitment to outstanding service, and ability to drive growth and work cross-functionally with other leaders, the Branch Manager is instrumental in achieving the credit union's goals and objectives.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides a hands-on approach to executing the First Credit Union business plan and major branch initiatives by setting targets for employees, leading planning sessions, and developing and supporting strategies to achieve First Credit Union’s long-term goals and objectives.
  • Monitors branch operations to support efficiency and adherence to processes and procedures as well as monthly targets. Identifies opportunities for growth around member experience, employee development and overall efficiencies.
  • Provides direction in all areas of member service functions including, retail lending, cash management, security procedures, risk management and product information.
  • Hires, trains, coaches, and develops branch employees, providing ongoing feedback and support to maximize individual and team performance.
  • Ensures that employee skills are maintained and upgraded as technology, products and services change; coordinates training sessions for employees through in-house resources and external contacts where possible.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally to develop strategies that support campaigns, marketing initiatives, and new products and services, identifying and capitalizing on potential growth opportunities both in the short and long-term.
  • Develops and maintains strong community relationships to increase the credit union's visibility and membership base, serving as a representative and champion of First Credit Union.
  • Empowers team members to execute superior sales and service, and leads the team to achieve financial goals and branch targets while exceeding high levels of member satisfaction.
  • Fosters a positive and inclusive team environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and encourages teamwork, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Maintains a high level of knowledge of products and services, including continual development to be aware of changes in the industry.
  • Reviews and analyzes branch reports while submitting monthly reports as needed.
  • Exhibits a high commitment to member-client relationships by promoting relationship building, cross-selling products and services, and referring members to other departments when appropriate.
  • Supports employees in resolving member issues leaning on empowering through education and credit union best practices.
  • Performs a variety of duties relating to the promotion, sale and administration of account, deposit, and loan products and services offered by First Credit Union.

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the financial industry, including retail lending and advisory services.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience considered an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of credit union operations, principles and values.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Superior problem-solving and conflict management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on time management and prioritization, including the capacity to multi-task and problem solve.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, perform under pressure, and demonstrate a high degree of initiative, resourcefulness and flexibility.
  • Proven sales and business development skills with a focus on member experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to support the growth of others through training and development.
  • Must complete the internal First Credit Union certification program specific to this role within the required timeframe.*
