Building Maintenance Worker

30 hours per week, flexible schedule

Position Summary:

The Building Maintenance Worker is responsible for scheduling maintenance, ensuring cleanliness, safety and repair of all agency facilities and equipment. To prepare correspondence and other documents relating to the position.
Responsible for organizing First Aid Training.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Completion of secondary school, plus post-secondary training in field of Facility Coordination and/or Building

Maintenance.

  • Minimum two (2) years’ relevant experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • WHMIS Certification

Job Skills and Ability:

  • Ability to organize work and carry out duties of the position with independence.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office applications.
  • Ability to keep accurate financial and maintenance records.
  • Experience performing minor repairs.
  • Strong understanding of financial procedures, working within a budget, and inventory control.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply tact and diplomacy in dealing with others.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, etc.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Monitor and check safety/security equipment and arranges for replacements, repairs and/or reports unsafe or faulty equipment to Director.

2. Arranges for and monitors major repair and maintenance work. Performs minor repairs as needed.

3. Ensures preventative maintenance on equipment and systems such as heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, plumbing, and electrical equipment. Ensures all equipment is operating properly. Complete and maintain related records.

4. Ensure all Agency premises are clean and safe. Responsible for monitoring of all Agency janitorial services, recycling programs and related contracts. Provides janitorial services as needed.

5. Responsible for tracking and submitting facility payables.

6. Responsible for moving, assembling, storing, and disposing of Agency furniture and equipment as needed.

7. Help maintain an inventory of all Agency furniture and equipment, and coordinate their moving and distribution.

8. Ensure all premises are compliant with WorkSafeBC Standards. Is responsible for First Aid Training, including purchase and distribution of First Aid supplies.

9. Serve as a member of the Health and Safety Committee, as First Aid Attendant, and as Fire Warden Director.

10. Maintain and monitor all alarm systems, security codes and disbursement of keys for all CCS buildings and offices.
To respond to security company call outs.

11. Monitor all equipment leases and room rental agreements, and advise Director when changes occur.

12. Maintain telephone systems and related agreements, arranges any repairs and replacements. Assists with cell phone distribution and support as needed.

13. Maintain inventory of all agency laptops and computers.

14. Order all facility supplies and keep sufficient inventory on hand.

15. Provide building orientation for all new employees and volunteers.

16. Provide, or arrange for, snow removal and lawn services as needed.

17. Provide, or arrange for, cleaning external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks, parking lots, building and windows.

18. Keep up to date on trends related to responsibilities of the position and maintain relevant records and statistics.

19. Completes all mandatory learning requirements.

20. Performs other related duties as required.

General:

  • Wage rate as per BCGEU Collective Agreement, Building Maintenance Worker, Grid Level 10 - $25.05 per hour.
  • This position requires Union membership.
  • This position is open only to all persons.
  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal record check.
  • This position reports to the Director of Operations.
