BCIT’s ITS department is a seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE ) Business Analyst. The Digital Transformation team within the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department helps the Institute proactively identify and respond to changes in technology, industry and customer expectations. This includes partnering with our clients to understand and address their challenges and opportunities; designing optimal system and process experiences for, and with, our stakeholders; and providing the support required for our Institute to adapt to change. Our ultimate goal is to improve the teaching and learning outcomes for our 50,000+ students, as well as the experiences of our faculty and staff.
It’s a dynamic time at BCIT as we embark on numerous projects and programs which will enhance the digital experience for students, faculty and staff. We are seeking a full-time Business Analyst (BA) to work with stakeholders across the Institute to understand the current state of their processes, facilitate the design of a future state, identify and ensure requirements are met. The BA will work closely with our clients in ITS, HR, Finance, Schools and Student Services. Assignments may range from Cloud Migration projects within IT Infrastructure department to implementation of Commercial off the Self Software, COTS and Software as a Service, SaaS solutions for our clients.

Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Elicits business requirements from key project and program stakeholders
  • Documents business requirements in various forms such as business requirements document (BRD), use cases, user scenarios, user stories, service design blueprints, business process maps, functional and technical specifications, etc. Ensures documents are catered to the audience and effectively translates business requirements and maintained regularly throughout the project lifecycle
  • Conducts process reviews, process improvement and impact assessment due to system changes or new implementations. Identifies all activities required to support to-be processes.
  • Conducts gap analysis between business rules, business requirements, legislative/compliance requirements and desired to-be state
  • Provides input to cost-benefit analyses on solution options
  • Researches solution options as required
  • Supports and contributes to reports or presentations on solution options, status of current and future work activities, work plan, change readiness, UAT, etc.
  • Works with project or program team(s) on solution design, ensuring needs and business goals of stakeholders are met throughout the project lifecycle
  • Plans production readiness activities with stakeholders and project/program managers
  • Plans and coordinates user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Contributes to requirements on RFPs
  • Work with business analysts on other projects to identify critical interdependencies

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Institute of Technology Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Business; and a minimum of six years of current, relevant experience in an IT environment similar to BCIT, including four of the last six years in a similar position; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Must have demonstrated advanced and current IT knowledge
  • Must have demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills
  • Proven commitment to providing and maintaining the highest level of customer service
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet changing priorities and multi-task while meeting strict deadlines
  • Must be a team player and work well with cross-departmental teams
  • Proven project management skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new knowledge and techniques
  • Commitment to regular ongoing professional development (including leadership and specific IT skills, professional associations, and current industry trends)
  • High level of professionalism and ethics


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Certified IIBA or PMI Business Analyst (ECBA, CCBA, CBAP or CBATL) or equivalent
  • Experience working in a medium to large-sized IT department/organization working with multiple teams of technical staff
  • Applied knowledge of change management methodology (e.g. Prosci) is an asset
  • Experience in Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is an asset
  • Able to work independently in producing project artifacts
  • Experience in a post-secondary institution or public sector environment an asset
  • Lean, Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) an asset
  • Experience coordinating project work packages is an asset

Salary Range
Salary Range: $69,865 - $92,712 per annum.

Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
