BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Reporting to the Vice President of Sales, the Business Development Manager will secure business objectives in accordance with the Midland strategic plan. The successful candidate will lead the development of sales strategies, including the Irving rounder business going to the US and back, development of the new rail can program, and ensuring profitable and competitive price increases. While focusing on Superior Quality Service, the Business Development Manager will strategize and execute a plan to maximize truckload capacity.

Qualifications:

  • Education Required: Post-Secondary education
  • Experience: 3-5 years in a sales role in the transportation industry
  • Multi-modal freight forwarding experience in a sales function is an asset
  • Strong business knowledge of North American transportation modes and customers
  • Strong negotiation and analytical / problem solving abilities
  • Highly professional presentation and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record of growing business within large accounts
  • Possession of a valid drivers’ license; must be willing to travel to the US
  • Candidates can perform the job from Ontario or the Maritimes, with the ability to travel between both locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Secure trade business and lead the Irving Rounder program
  • Lead the truckload plan, ensuring maximum capacity is utilized
  • Support new rail can business with new opportunities, while providing leadership to the sales team.
  • Conduct a business case on the efficiency and utilization of rail cans for specific routes
  • Manage and guide the contract and rate agreements process
  • Create effective sales strategies by gathering market intel and capitalizing on opportunities
  • Working with the sales team and linehaul, secure new customers on freight out of the North Eastern US
