Finishing Touch Builders Ltd., an experienced General Contractor in Red Deer, AB is now accepting resumes for an Apprentice Carpenter or labourer to join our team in a permanent position. This position will be based out of Red Deer, AB and may require occasional travel for project work outside of city limits.

Position Summary:
The Apprentice Carpenter/Labourer is an integral member of our team. Reporting to the Owner/Manager or Journeyperson Carpenter the Apprentice Carpenter/Carpenter Assistant is responsible for the general carpentry duties necessary to fulfill the requirements of project specifications.

They will be responsible for ensuring tasks are performed safely in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, within company policies and site-specific policies where necessary.

Essential Duties:
  • Perform a variety of related carpentry and repair duties at various job sites as required.
  • Follow through on verbal and written work orders as directed by Journeyperson Carpenter or Owner / Manager.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and apply knowledge of safety rules and instructions while performing job duties.
  • Assist in performing routine carpentry tasks, including but not limited to installing walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, siding, lighting fixtures, cabinetry, doors, trims, etc.
  • Erect scaffolding, ladders, etc. for assembling structures above ground levels.
  • Smooth and sand surfaces to remove ridges, tool marks, glue or caulking.
  • Assist in selecting and retrieving tools, equipment, and/or materials from storage or trailers.
  • Clean work areas, machines, or equipment, to maintain a clean and safe job site.
  • Execute timely completion of assigned work order tasks as assigned.
  • Assist in the completion of all necessary documentation as per process / protocol to ensure cost transparency of activities completed and accurate cost allocation.
  • Embrace Health & Safety environment focused on prevention of accident / incident.
  • Be learning and committed to learning industry related legislation and updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Apprentice 1-2 Carpenter in Alberta.
  • Current driver's license and own transportation required for travel to and from sites.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools, use personal protective equipment and maintain job site safety
  • Ability to listen, learn, follow instructions and conform to building codes under the direction of the Journeyperson Carpenter or Manager.
  • Effective verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Good attendance and time-management skills.
  • Able to stand and work heights for long periods of time.
  • Be able to lift to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Be able to work away from home for long periods of time.
  • Be active in maintaining apprenticeship requirements including, but not limited to, submitting hours, attending technical training, etc.
  • Certification in WHMIS, Aerial Lift and Fall Protection an asset.

Estimated Wages: $18.00-$22.00 / hr.
