The Upper Grand District School Board’s 3,000 plus dedicated teaching and support staff provide student success to over 35,000 students who attend our 65 elementary schools and 11 secondary schools in the City of Guelph, County of Wellington and County of Dufferin. The Upper Grand District School Board is situated on the treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit and Saugeen Ojibway Nation, and Six Nations of the Grand River within The Haldimand Tract.

The Upper Grand District School Board invites qualified applicants for this full time, temporary position to start as soon as possible.

LOCATION: Assignments to all areas maintained by the UGDSB

HOURLY RATE: $27.38 per hour

HOURS: 40 hours/week (8 hours/day); Monday through Friday

START DATE: Estimated start date is as soon as possible. This temporary position is for up to three months with the possibility of extension.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Carry out maintenance work

· Make alterations and additions to Board building including cabinet work, furniture repair, concrete repair, drywall applications and finishing,

· Repair/replace commercial doors, locks, windows and caulking, floor and ceiling tile installation and repair

· Maintain and install of accessibility components including door operators, grab bars and construction of ramps to meet accessibility and OBC requirements

· Perform roof leak investigation and minor repairs

· Installation of blackboards, white boards and coat racks

· Work from ladders, scaffolds, and aerial platforms

· Design, Build and install millwork including countertops and maintenance of millwork

· Minor painting, staining and finishing

· Comply with all requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Electrical Code, Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, WHMIS, and Board Policies

· Identify and report repair needs and safety issues encountered at Board facilities

· Perform Type I and/or II asbestos work if qualified

· Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in planning projects and quoting work

· Availability to work on call for after-hours emergency work

· Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Certificate of Qualification as a Journeyman from the Province of Ontario in carpentry

· 2-5+ years of relevant work experience

· Ability to maintain a work schedule with minimum supervision

· Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

· Passion for a positive customer service experience with staff, students, and the public

· Willingness and demonstrated ability to perform all requirements of the position

· Current Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle

· Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety regulations as well as the WHMIS program

· Ability to prioritize tasks and continually assess risks

PREFERRED SKILLS:

· Familiarity with a computerized work order system

· Basic computer skills (Word and Excel)
