Summary:
Under the direction of the Team Leader, the Class 1 Driver is responsible for the safe operation of various types of tractor trailers including vans and decks for pick-up and delivery of materials for transport to a destination. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment testing and requires a Class 1 Driver’s License (or equivalent), and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract to support insurability. Employee is also required to complete an in-house road-test prior to onboarding.

Key focuses:
  • Fill out pre and post trip inspection forms for trucks and trailers and submit to the office.
  • Ensure truck is properly equipped and in proper working order
  • Perform light maintenance when necessary (greasing, changing lights, tire pressure)
  • Couple and uncouple to various trailers including vans and decks
  • Speak with dispatch to get pick-up calls
  • Maintain shipping and loading documents, copy document numbers, PO numbers, and work order numbers onto a FMGOC bill of lading
  • Ensure material is secured to the trailer using tie down straps or chains, if a van ensure door is closed
  • Complete trailer list at end of shift and call in to dispatch
  • Make sure the vehicle is fueled and cleaned at the end of shift
  • Expediting material and parts around and between sites
Experience and Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Class one (1) license with a satisfactory 5-year Drivers Abstract
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience is required
  • Valid CSO or CSTS and OSSA or BSO is required
  • Air Brake “Q” Endorsement is required Completion of TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) course and
  • WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) course is required.
  • Operation of Tractor-Trailer Combo, 10 Ton Deck Trucks, Telehandler, Zoom Boom, Forklift, Tow Truck and Boom Trucks
  • Boom Truck ticket is an asset
  • A Load Securement course is an asset.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in using an electronic log system is required but not necessary.
  • Knowledge in MS Office is an asset.
  • At least 2+ years of truck driving experience in a Logistics, Warehouse/Yard, or Transportation environment is required.
  • Experience with tractor/tandem trailers and deck is required
  • Must be dependable and reliable
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
NOTE: All applications must include a five (5) year commercial driver abstract, current issued within 30 days, in order to receive consideration.
There are multiple full-time positions opened, based north of Fort McMurray at Mildred Lake or Aurora site on Teams 506, 507, 508, and 509. Schedule is 6 on, 6 off, All Dayshift, 12 hours per day.
