Closed Captioner

Blue Ant Media Inc. is currently looking for a full-time Closed Captioner. This position will be responsible for closed caption creation and quality assurance across all brands.

Core Responsibilities & Duties

  • Maintain a high level of On-Air Quality
  • Transcribing and Captioning of all on-air materials for all BAM services
  • Acquired Programming and In-House Productions
  • Short Form Productions, Music Videos, Paid Advertising and Special Projects
  • Edited for Time, Censored, Multi-to-Single Segment versions of Programming
  • Single Segment captioning files as required for VOD
  • Uploading and Passing of all .scc files to the automation system for all BAM services
  • Programming that has been re-sent or re-wrapped after initial ingest
  • Notification to Presentation/Media Services when A/V is not available or in a QC required state
  • Ripping of Embedded captions to create separate .scc files referencing BAM on-air policies
  • Coordinating the third-party transcription of materials
  • Referencing Monthly Programming Timelines for upcoming Programming
  • Maintain Channel/Programming .scc files for easy access in regards to revisions, edits, VOD and on-air
  • Updating of Broadview for Programming that has been fully captioned
  • General Captioning Software troubleshooting (MacCaption, Swift, Inkscribe)
  • Create Weekly Shift Reports and attend Captioning Department meetings
  • Special Projects and Other Duties as assigned
Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Must be fluent in English
  • Ability to work cross‐functionally with various departments to ensure all teams interface efficiently
  • Basic knowledge of Broadcast Centre Signal Flow
  • Technical or Operational knowledge of the following systems preferred, but not limited to:
  • MacCaption
  • Swift
  • FTP, Filezilla and web portal transfers and management
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Google Applications
  • Familiarity with multiple aspect ratios and UHD technology
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and efficiently meet tight deadlines
  • Good communication skills and strong technical vocabulary
  • Understanding of non-linear editing practices and all formats of technical specifications (North American and International)
  • Responsibility for and “ownership” of on-air captioning look and feel through data integrity, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Self-starter that demonstrates initiative and ability to work both independently and as a member of a core technology team
  • Post-secondary education in a television/broadcast media-related discipline and or journalism is an asset
