The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is a unique program of government tasked with the responsibility of preventing and managing unwanted wildfire on the landscape. Approximately 1600 field workers – comprising technical experts, strategic thinkers and fire operations staff – are dedicated to undertaking the BCWS mandate in delivering effective wildfire management and emergency response support to protect life and values at risk, encouraging sustainable, healthy and resilient ecosystems.

As the Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and delivering the communications program for the Fire Centre.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Degree or higher in a field related to communications, public relations, journalism, or equivalent knowledge, plus one (1) year related experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field; OR,
  • Technical diploma in a field related to communications, public relations, journalism, or equivalent knowledge, plus three (3) years related experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field; OR,
  • Secondary School graduation (Grade 12) or equivalent (GED) plus five (5) years related experience in communications, public relations, journalism or related field; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may also be considered.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with a minimum of 1-year supervisory experience.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with emergency response experience.
  • Valid Class 5 driver licence.
