Hiring Unit:
The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering
Job Description:
Communicate research news from the MIME department in terms that are accessible to the general public and appealing to media, industry, and researchers.
Specific tasks include:
Collect information concerning research news in the MIME department through emails and web searches; write up paragraphs of different lengths to be posted on departmental twitter and linkedin accounts weekly; interview professors and write up one article per month featuring a specific research news, few paragraphs long, to be posted on departmental and faculty news website, with aim of being featured in McGill Newsroom and broader media. Helps with writing up news articles for “The Conversation”.
Qualifications:
Working towards a degree in communication studies or related fields, and proved interest/experience in communicating science/engineering related news.
Working towards a degree in engineering or science, and experience in science communication
Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:
A strong understanding of engineering subject matter
Strong communication skills, with the ability to create content, both written and visual, for a variety of mediums (e.g. web articles, promotional material, social media).
McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties do require English communication skills both verbally and in writing, this position specifically is requiring excellent English language skills.
