Community Wellness Support Worker

In accordance with Fort McMurray First Nations Vision of an idealized system of wrap-around services for all members to access as a supportive resource for growth and healing, the Nation is seeking qualified, energetic individuals, to act as Community Wellness Support Worker.

Job Overview:

Community Wellness Support Workers will provide support and referrals to members and create growth programming. Reporting to Community Wellness Coordinator, the Community Wellness Support Worker serves as the first point of contact and a link between the Nation's organizations and the people they serve. The liaisons will work with all members of Fort McMurray # 468 First Nation to enhance the quality of life for our members.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of personal contact for community members
  • Provide direction on members' concerns, and advocate on behalf of them
  • Connect populations with services and provide support through counselling and connecting individuals with medical, mental health, legal, government and community support
  • Perform marketing and sales-related functions such as creating and hosting events, making presentations, and contacting members.
  • Community public relations and increase public awareness of FMFN468 activities.
  • Seek and write grant proposals.
  • To provide crisis support, interim counselling services and referral to longer-term services if applicable.
  • Create health and wellness programming for community members and orientate members on new programs.
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements:

  • College Diploma in Human Services or related field
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in group facilitation, program implementation, and counselling.
  • A criminal record (Vulnerable Sector) and intervention record check
  • Class 5 Alberta driver's license w and willing to upgrade to Class 4 during employment.
  • First Aid, ASSIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, and Naloxone training will be required to be taken and maintained throughout employment.
  • passion for helping others and speaking with groups
  • Strong base knowledge of community services within the RMWB and research skills to provide referrals for off-reserve members
  • Strong documentation skills, in addition to Microsoft Office application knowledge
  • The applicant will live and promote healthy living.
  • Strong spiritual, cultural, and traditional knowledge and values of First Nations people are preferred.
  • Own, reliable transportation with $2,000,000 liability
