Working with the Compensation and Classification team. This role plays a key role in building a competitive comparator database that support the City compensation framework

In alignment with the City’s Cultural Commitments you will:

  • Build, maintain and enhance the external market based compensation research framework to support the City of Edmonton’s approved compensation philosophy/strategy, and provides research to collect market data to support setting job rates for positions from all bargaining units, OOS, and management/exempt positions
  • Designs customized salary/compensation surveys, distributes to partner/comparator organizations, analyzes and compiles results, distributes finalized reports to participants
  • Build close relationships with target market organizations, respond to benchmarking requests from external agencies, proactively conduct regular benchmarking exercises for key benchmark jobs within the City
  • Scrutinize comparator organizations collective agreements, wage schedules, websites, compensation data sources and market survey vendor results on all related compensation elements to support the building and maintenance of the compensation framework
  • Collect and analyze compensation data and terms of employment from counterparts in other jurisdictions, employer associations, employers, policy documents, collective agreements and/or academic literature
  • Determine and establish appropriate compensation statistical standards and metrics in reporting comparator data for respective markets
  • Create dashboards and standardized comparator wage databases, using determined aging and forecasting factors
Qualifications:
  • University degree in economics psychology, business, statistics, human resources, industrial relations, or other relevant fields, supplemented with additional courses or certifications in compensation, economics and/or data analytics
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of human resources, total rewards (compensation, benefits, pensions), and labour relations-related issues facing Canadian organizations
  • Minimum 2 years direct related work experience namely conducting salary surveys and quantitative data analysis, analyzing trends pertaining to the labour market
  • Technical compensation knowledge, including statistical concepts, is required in order to analyze and research data, develop pay recommendations
  • Data visualization skills to summarize data and prepare visual aids for presentation
  • In depth understanding of various job evaluation methodologies to accurately benchmarks against different compensation plans
