Children’s Services focuses on early intervention, child development and delivering supports and services to children, youth, and families. It works to ensure that children in Alberta have the tools they need to thrive in healthy families and communities. The ministry engages with Indigenous leaders and communities, the Government of Canada, other Government of Alberta ministries, community agencies and other stakeholders.
The Department of Children’s Services leads childcare & intervention, early childhood development, foster & kinship care, adoption, and improvements for children & youth.
Role
The Contract Specialist plays an integral role in program planning, consultation, contract negotiation, monitoring and evaluation. The role ensures that contracted resources provide quality services to children and families. This position is greatly involved in strategic initiatives, capacity building and best practices for contracting and procurement approaches.
As a Contract Specialist, you will negotiate, review and monitor contracts and grants to ensure the quality and quantity of services provided. You will also be required to play a key role in the contract planning and procurement processes. This position works as part of a high performing team of professionals focused on ensuring positive outcomes for children and families.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

- Building Collaborative Relationships: Understanding, meeting or exceeding stakeholder needs. Work collaboratively with stakeholders (community services providers and CS staff) to provide clients with exceptional service delivery.
Qualifications
- University Degree related to Human Services
Experience/Skills:
- Preferred minimum of 2 years of related experience in:
- contract management,
- contract planning,
- procurement
- financial acumen
- knowledge of practice related to providing trauma-based services and supports to children and families
- awareness of relevant legislation applying to Children’s Services familiarity working with Microsoft Office is required (Outlook, Excel, Adobe)
- experience working with various stakeholders, and building effective relationships is essential
- an understanding of Indigenous world views and the impact of colonization on the children and families we serve.
The following equivalencies may be considered; Master of Social Work and 1-year related experience; a related university degree with four years of related experience; or a related diploma plus five years of related experience; or a related certificate and 6 years of related experience.

Salary
$2,907.15 to $3,764.70 bi-weekly: ($75,876 to $98,258/ yearly)
