About MRU

Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. About the Faculty of Continuing Education & Extension

The Faculty of Continuing Education & Extension at Mount Royal University invites applications for a part-time sessional appointment.

Mount Royal University has provided continuing education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 60 years. We offer more than 1,000 courses and 100 certificate and diploma programs and have more than 50,000 course registrations each year. Our courses cover a wide range of sectors, including but not limited to social services, business, and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus, online, in the workplace, and in the community.


About the Role

The department is seeking an enthusiastic professional interested in sharing their knowledge, passion, and expertise to teach in the following program.

Program: Cannabis Education (Online asynchronous)

  • Course: Commercial Cannabis Production

Responsibilities

Instruction:

  • Course delivery
  • Marking/grading
  • Facilitate course delivery using approved curriculum and learning materials
  • Review and revision of course assessments

Online instruction also includes:

  • Posting weekly announcements to students on the course site beginning
  • Responding to student emails within 48 hours
  • Monitoring student discussion board and responding or moderating as needed
  • An online instructor is required to access the course daily; however, there are no predetermined times of the day an instructor is required to be online. Online instructors must have reliable internet service throughout the entire period of the course.

Administration:

  • Marking and submission of course grades
  • Maintain regular contact with the program administrative team
  • Participate in occasional instructor meetings and individual meetings with the program coordinator as required
  • Occasional participation in Information Sessions for prospective students

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary credential in a related field
  • 3+ years in the licensed Canadian cannabis industry
  • Experience teaching, training, presenting or public speaking is an asset
  • Familiarity with adult education and adult learners is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Working knowledge of copyright and APA citation
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace is an asset
  • Proficiency with the D2L learning management system is an asset
