Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Position

The Deputy Project Director is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG's dynamic team to manage key areas of the project from project execution phase to handover to Operations. The EPC phase is expected to be 3 to 4 years, by an EPC contractor. This position can be a staff position or contract-based terms and conditions. The successful candidate reports directly to the Project Director and will play an essential part in supporting the company's engineering and senior management team through the construction phase of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide safety leadership and champion HSSE.
  • Supervise PMT Pipeline, Regulatory and Site Construction personnel.
  • Provide input into execution plans including HSSE management plans, quality management plans, interface management plans, environmental management plans and construction execution plans as well as other key project plans and procedures.
  • Coordinate Canadian based PMT and contractors' activities with WLNG Business Unit to ensure approvals and compliance to all Canadian Federal, Provincial and Local policies, codes, and standards; for example, ensure areas of responsibility meets company, oil, and gas industry as well as Canadian safely, regulatory, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Accountable for controlling scope of work, risk management, change management, costs and schedule as well as forecasting to deliver the project within budget and schedule for areas of responsibility.
  • Provide input for areas of responsibility for annual budgets and total project cost budgets; provide timely and accurate reporting on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Work with Regulatory and Utility bodies, as required, to execute work on feed gas inlet and electrical power to the LNG Plant

Requirements

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 20+ years of project experience in major capital projects in the oil and gas industry; LNG project experience is preferred; held key roles in project management and construction management during project execution phase.
  • Has strong knowledge/experience in field construction; LNG plants, gas compression and gas processing facilities preferred.
  • Has practical working knowledge/experience in HSSE, Quality, Contracts, Project Controls (Cost and Planning), Procurement and Materials Management
  • At least 10+ years of direct supervisory experience managing large teams.
  • Worked on $1.0+ Billion EPC projects in project management role.
  • Able to balance technical decision making with commercial considerations to protect the project goals, objectives, cost, and schedule.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams, contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Communication/interpersonal skills – to be able to interact with front line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), with travel globally to support project execution for meetings, workshops or audits, and a visit to the Company's Vancouver Office as required.
