Truss Designer

United Truss, Innisfil ON

Located in Innisfil ON, United Truss is a subsidiary of United Lumber and Building Supplies. United Truss supports United Lumber’s three building supply locations in southern Ontario and services a vast client base.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Reviews orders, layouts and data files for accuracy
  • Design and analyze wood roof trusses and LVL beams to meet all standards
  • Assists sales and production with design service and troubleshooting
  • Staffs, develops and coaches the design team, evaluates performance and initiates corrective action as required.
  • Maintaining Customer Relations (On phone and at times travel to job sites, converse with framers, builders, architects and inspectors)
  • Visit project sites as required
  • Optimize truss packages for production

Qualifications:

Knowledge

  • Truss designer experience
  • Working knowledge and experience using Mitek software is preferred
  • Understanding of code requirements and loading conditions
  • Ability to read blueprints and visualize details in three dimension
  • Working knowledge of engineered wood products and roof systems preferred

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to manage several activities/projects at once, to organize and prioritize work, to meet deadlines, to prepare plans, goals and budgets
  • Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time, be mobile in the work environment, and work hours mandated by management
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, including customers, peers, and management
  • Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and the public
  • Ability to use a computer terminal, and proficiency of the use of Mitek and other business and design related software
  • Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speaking
