Position Description


Working at The Hospital for Sick Children is not just a job - it's a career. Our staff is our greatest strength as they form our vision, carry out our mission and represent our values. The Nutrition & Food Services Department is looking for a Dietary Technician to join our Patient Services Team.

Here’s What You’ll Get to Do:

As an integral part of the Nutrition and Food Services team, the Dietary Technician will work in coordination with Diet Technicians, Clinical Dietitians, Manager of Patient Services and other health care professionals to ensure that the nutritional needs of patients are being met. Diet Technicians exercise clinical skill while processing diet orders from patient care units to ensure specific diet, breastmilk, and formula orders are calculated and prepared safely, accurately, and in a timely fashion.
Diet Technicians also provide leadership and supervision to Dietary Aides, who perform functions such as food preparation, and breastmilk and formula preparation, while monitoring processes to ensure the highest quality outcome.


Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Graduate of an approved Food Service Management diploma program or an accredited Food and Nutrition bachelor degree program.
  • Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management and CFSSA preferred.
  • Experience working in a Hospital setting, preferably with children.
  • Experience working with a unionized workforce preferred.
  • Experience with pediatric diets and breastmilk and formula orders.
  • Proficient knowledge of computer programs including MS Teams, MS Word, Excel, SharePoint. As well as experience with computerized diet order entry systems.
  • Satisfactory attendance record, work performance and the ability to work in a team setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skill.

This position requires weekend work
