Draftsperson
Reports to the Associate Director-Planning on all matters, regarding the assigned and drafting issue. The Draftsperson is part of the design team and shall ensure to meet submittal dates in a timely manner. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Architectural Technology Construction Management or Civil Engineering
Years of Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years' experience in drafting, parts or breakdown.
Working Conditions

  • Site visits requires wearing PPE for all site work and in certain other locations;
  • At times requires driving to visit sites; and
  • Flexible to work overtime as required.
Required Level
  • Detail oriented with the ability to read construction drawings (architectural, structural, electrical or interior design);
  • Knowledgeable in the industry and knows about the products and systems;
  • Knowledge of commercial doors and door hardware (automatic door closers, panic hardware, etc.);
  • Ability to design or complete Shop drawings;
  • Ability to act as a mentorship to Junior Drafters;
  • Communication with coworkers daily by telephone, email and in person;
  • Ability to work on many projects that are complex;
  • Demonstrate State's core values and work in a team environment; and
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Job Specific Duties

  • Check and ensure to receive all necessary drawings/documents to start the shop drawing (Architectural, Slab edge, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical in CAD and Hardcopies - preferably IFC drawings);
  • Attend a Scope of Work meeting wit the AD, PM and Estimator to discuss what we price and scope of our work;
  • Coordinate with the AD/.PM regarding the approved samples (color, finish, glass, spandrel glass);
  • Shop drawing must be done as per schedule;
  • Review shop drawings per internal review and responsible to keep track of revisions;
  • Prepare PDF set for engineer's review;
  • Generate material take-off for glass, aluminum, flashing and frame;
  • Coordinate with purchasing as required;
  • Revise shop drawing from GC and responsible for all SI/revisions received thereafter;
  • Ensure all CR's and NPR's are incorporated on the shop drawing;
  • Prepare as-built shop drawing at the end of the project;
  • Prepare an RFI for any discrepancy between drawings, design and installation issues or missing details;
  • Always discuss and inform AD/PM issues with the project;
  • Advise AD/PM ahead of time if schedule will not be met;
  • Follow up after a week for any outstanding RFI's;
  • Review site inspections with the AD/PM to determine the cost of implications;
  • Coordinate as required with the architect and contractor, if verbal follow up with email and copy the AD/PM;
  • Work closely with the Breakdown Detailers for the development of fabrication package;
  • Release breakdown parts as required;
  • Attend coordination meetings with the AD/PM if necessary; and
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Associate Director-Planning.
