Job Summary: Working collaboratively within their team and system-wide, the incumbent is responsible for deliveries across the system. The incumbent maintains safe work practices to load and unload the delivery truck with totes and assist with other Shipping duties once deliveries are complete. Assignments are received from a superior or directly from other branches or divisions. The incumbent represents the Library’s vision, mission and values by demonstrating and modeling conduct that reflects the library’s policies and procedures.

Job Requirements:

Education/Qualifications:

  • Completion of the twelfth school grade supplemented by safe driver training and/or some experience in shipping and receiving work, OR equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience:

  • Two to three year’s work experience in a customer service environment and experience in the operation of a commercial vehicle or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations:

  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • Passing grade for the City's New Driver Orientation program

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Satisfactory Driver’s Record from ICBC documenting a 5 year driving history.
  • Basic computer skills for general office use such as email correspondence and intranet access.
  • Ability to plan, organize and carry out assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of the rules of safe operation of a motor vehicle and the precautions necessary to avoid traffic accidents.
  • Working knowledge of techniques involved in loading various articles to ensure safe transportation and facilitate easy unloading.
  • Working knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in moving heavy items.
  • Good physical condition, strength and agility as required in truck driving and in handling heavy articles.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs frequently; ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally for short distances.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
  • Ability to arrange an effective work schedule with minimal direction.
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory relationships with library personnel.
  • Skill in effectively using the equipment and tools required in performance of the work, such as hand truck, furniture dollies and pallet jacks.
  • Good physical condition, strength and agility as required in truck driving and in handling heavy articles.

Schedule: Shifts are from Monday - Saturday: 7:30 - 4:00pm
