Role

Alberta Transportation has an exciting opportunity for a Driver Program Administrator to join the team. The Driver programs/ MELT (Mandatory Entry Level Training) & License Branch is looking for detail oriented, highly motivated, and independent individual.

Reporting to the Senior Driver Programs Administration, this position administers driver licensing, driver training and driver examination regulatory programs.

The main responsibilities for Driver Program Administrator are (but not limited to):

  • Conducts operation and performance reviews under section 38 of the Driver Training and Driver Examination Regulation (e.g., audits and monitoring sessions) of licensed driving instructors, and licensed driver training schools to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, and good practices.
  • The incumbent inspects regulated stakeholder’s records related to driver training or driver examinations to determine if there is compliance with legislation, regulations policies, procedures, and good practices.
  • The Administrator will assess applications and applicants for driving instructor, driver training school, and driver examiner licenses/ designations to ensure they comply with legislation and policies. Recommendations are made as to whether to license/designate applicants.
  • Assesses applicants, inspect facilities, and approve licenses for driver training schools.
  • Writes reports and documents, including responding to ministerial action requests as required.
  • Gathers, retains, and processes evidence, such as interviewing complaints, victims, witnesses, suspects, and accused persons. These are done in a consistent, thorough and in unbiased manner.
  • Participates in team projects, special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Required:

  • 2 years diploma in administration plus 5 years progressively responsible experience in related field is required. At minimum, a valid Class 4 Operator’s license is required. Preferences will be given to the holder of an Alberta Class 1 and Class 6 operator’s license. Possession of an ‘S’ endorsement is considered an asset. Candidates with similar or related experience are encouraged to apply.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered based on:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

  • Driver examiner experience.
  • Driver Instructor experience.
  • Experience working with the Traffic Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Experience conducting audits and/ or providing monitoring or oversight.
  • Knowledge of the Government of Alberta, department, and business areas.
  • Knowledge of all classes of license types (e.g., Class 1,2,3,4,5, air brake, school bus) including Class 1 and Class 2 MELT programs. This will require a Class1 driver’s license with an air brake and school bus endorsement and a satisfactory record.
  • Proficiency in office information technology used for tasks, including Microsoft office suite, Adobe, ARTS, 1GX, BERNIE, Corporate Registries System etc.

Salary

$2,336.16 - $3,066.17 bi-weekly ($60,973.77 – $80,027.03/year) approximately.
