The Role:


The Electrical Engineer–in-Training is a full-time role as part of Enfinite’s Engineering and Operations team. Reporting to the Director, Development & Projects you will provide technical support activities for Enfinite owned and operated facilities. You will be involved in all technical phases of the project lifecycle.


As you could potentially be working on projects across the globe, regional and international travel will be required.


Responsibilities:

Asset Performance:

  • Coordinate reviews and updates of all protection and controls for generators and medium to high voltage equipment.
  • Perform investigations into equipment failures and possibly the resulting outages and make recommendations to prevent future failures in a detailed memorandum.
  • Assist and document troubleshooting of all E&I related problems.
  • Assist and document troubleshooting of all communication and networking related problems either.
  • Update and document all schematics to reflect any changes from the record drawings.
  • Participate in annual maintenance and testing activities.
  • Follow the MOC (Management of Change) process, ensuring required due diligence is carried out and documented.
  • Make asset risk and value-based decisions in collaboration with the field operations team in a real time and near real time environment.
  • Develop scope, cost estimates and risk assessments in collaboration with stakeholders for newly identified work greater than $5,000.
  • Work with the field operations team to lead the maintenance and operations managed capital planning process for their respective areas and participate in work prioritization across all generating assets for centralized investment decisions and fiscal work plan development.

Development and Acquisition of Projects:

  • Support the development team through reviewing technical documentation and providing comments.
  • Prepare Request for Proposal, including scope of work and preliminary Design Basis Memorandum or Functional Specifications for use by EPC(M) contractors as well as contribute to cost estimate development and provide support to the construction project manager.
  • Support major equipment procurement processes
  • Carry out design checks and reviews of the work done by engineering consultants and Subject Matter Experts.
  • Assists in tender evaluations and provides recommendations for contract award.
  • Perform on-site construction supervision including preparing daily construction and commissioning reports.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A recognized Electrical Engineering degree and registered, at a minimum, as an Engineer in Training with APEGA. Minimum 2-3 years of design or equivalent experience.
  • Experience and proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation and MS Office.
  • Ability to read and review single-line, three-line, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and other electrical and shop drawings.
  • Experience working on power generation projects is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with different relays and their software including: Schneider Electric, GE Multilin, SEL, and Woodward is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with data concentrators, switches, PLC’s, RTU’s, SCADA and HMI is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of CSA, NEC, IEEE, NERC, IEC, ISO & NETA codes, standards and specifications is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with CDEGS, PSSE and/or ETAP is considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean drivers abstract.
  • Strong organization, time management and detail-oriented skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new concepts and techniques.
  • Strong commitment to safety and the environment.

Travel:

  • It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be required to travel more than 50% on the job with some of that travel time spent within the province while the rest would be outside the province. Travel will be based on prioritizing operational issues and supporting projects during construction and commissioning.
