In January of 2021, Shermco Industries acquired Ready Engineering to enhance our leading specialty engineering business throughout North America. Through Ready Engineering, we provide electrical and controls systems engineering services including electrical engineering design, control system design and implementation, commissioning coordination and management, and start-up support for heavy industrial and utility customers. we serve clients from offices across North America in industries that include bio-fuels, chemicals and fibers, mining, oil and gas, pulp and paper, special waste management, and nuclear, fossil, and green power generation. We meet its customers’ concerns in projects such as power system designs, control system installations and upgrades, software verification and validation, design, commissioning, start-up support, and more.

This is not a job for people who are looking to work their way up the corporate ladder, it’s a long-term career of building cool stuff.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, cultural and technical training to Engineering employees
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback to individual employees and assist employees in developing their career path/development goals
  • Responsible for hiring, training and retaining talented and highly utilized employees to achieve operational objectives
  • Promote an inclusive, positive, and respectful work environment and implement an “open door policy” to allow employees to bring concerns forward in a productive manner
  • Responsible for setting, assessing, reviewing job scheduling and task assignments
  • Follow-up with Project Managers, Engineers, and other employees on a regular basis to ensure they are on track and able to obtain the resources required to effectively complete projects
  • Ensure Engineering employees receive all required safety training
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing company policy, standards and procedures; ensure compliance with codes and legal regulations
  • Manage projects to ensure safety, productivity, client satisfaction, client relations, and that results meet exceptional standards of quality
  • Limit the company’s liability by overseeing the quality of work performed, the type of work performed, and reviewing client/vendor contracts
  • Participate in Work in Progress meetings to review project costs/revenues and identify areas requiring improvement
  • Maintain engineering professional practice management requirements as set forth by APEGA
  • Evaluate completed projects to identify what worked well and what could be improved; debrief employees and discuss lessons learned
  • Work with administrative employees to ensure invoicing information is effectively handled to allow prompt and accurate billing
  • Participate in project estimating, tender evaluations and develop proposals
  • Provide clients with recommendations for Engineering services or other solutions
  • Foster positive and productive business relationships with major client representatives
  • Establish opportunities to grow the business by promoting all Shermco services to new and existing clients
  • Up-sell Shermco services and products while working with clients to generate new business and revenue opportunities
  • Track, forecast and ultimately meet/exceed the Engineering Department’s annual budget
  • Ensure budget and profit targets are in line with the company’s strategic direction
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications to qualify for consideration, you must meet each of the following minimum qualifications and requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • P.Eng. licensed in Alberta preferred.
  • At least 8 years of design and field experience in electrical, instrumentation and/or controls engineering; power system study experience beneficial
  • At least 4 years of successfully managing, supervising, and coaching other engineers.
  • At least 4 years of project management experience.
  • Knowledge of estimating and budget management.
  • Willingness to be hands-on and work in the field alongside our engineers and others.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
