Entry-Level Engineering Consultant (Mississauga or Markham, Ontario) - Water

The Water Business Unit of Ramboll is seeking a full-time Associate-Level Engineering Consultant with 0-3 years of experience to join one of our Greater Toronto Area, Ontario area offices (Mississauga or Markham). The appropriately qualified applicant will perform environmental evaluation, engineering, and permitting tasks in the areas of industrial water and wastewater, stormwater, and water resources projects. Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Treatability laboratory experiments, pilot scale testing, industrial site field work
  • Treatment plant operations and troubleshooting
  • Discharge impacts on receiving water studies
  • Wastewater and stormwater permitting
  • Monitoring the construction phase of projects
  • Supporting stormwater management programs
  • Conducting sampling events in various site settings
  • Performing engineering calculations and analysis of complex real-world problems
  • Developing hydrologic and hydraulic models
  • Assisting senior Water staff with the preparation of proposals and technical reports, including compiling analytical data
  • Conducting travel / field work (daytime and overnight, usually in Canada, but could involve U.S. and other international short-term travel)


Required Skills

  • Successful candidates will have an CEAB accredited Bachelors and Masters degree in the field of chemical or environmental engineering with a specialty in water resources
  • Ability to obtain or already have a P.Eng. designation in Canada
  • Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor
  • Proactive on assignments demonstrating initiative and the ability to think critically and solve problems
  • Knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using AutoCAD is desired, but not required
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with a willingness to follow detailed instructions and learn new skills
  • Valid driver’s license required


The physical requirements of this position may include the need for climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing/sitting/walking, pushing/pulling, and lifting up to 40 lbs. In certain situations, this position may expose the candidate to extremes in weather (hot/cold); high noise levels, to hazards such as a proximity to moving machine parts and moving vehicles, electrical current and exposure to chemicals. Employees may be required to take specific training to follow strict safety standards and to wear PPE on some occasions.
