What is the opportunity?

RBC Global Asset Management (“RBC GAM”) is a North American-based asset manager with global scope and industry leading investment management capabilities. RBC GAM manages approximately C$615 billion in assets worldwide on behalf of institutional and individual investors through mutual funds, pooled funds, hedge funds, segregated accounts and specialty investment strategies. We are currently looking for an Equity Trader to strengthen our growing North American Equity Trading and Research team. Reporting to the Vice President, Global Head of Equity Trading at RBC GAM, the Equity Trader will work with the Global Trading and investment team to develop and execute trading strategies.

What will you do?

  • Seek to ensure “best execution” on all trades.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with securities dealers.

  • Keep up to date with industry and regulatory developments related to equity trading issues.

  • Execute purchases and sales of securities based on instructions from Portfolio Managers and also within defined discretionary guidelines.

  • Provide portfolio managers with ongoing information about market sentiment, trading environment, trading volume and price volatility.

  • Communicate with brokers in a professional manner and maintains good relations with all individuals and/or companies dealing with RBCGAM.

  • Responsible for working as a member of the trading team and participating n the efficient functioning of the team.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • University degree in Business or equivalent.

  • High proficiency in all Microsoft Office products and sourcing data from external databases.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and keen interest in capital markets and analysis.

Nice to Have

  • Experienced trader with comprehensive knowledge of equity securities and their markets, trading characteristics and trading regulations.

  • Experience in executing individual equity and program trades.

  • Experience with trading systems, including Bloomberg, Charles River, Triton etc.

  • Excellent understanding of factors influencing price trends and equity security exchanges.

  • Keep up to date with industry and regulatory developments related to equity trading issues.

  • Improve framework for tracking trading costs and algorithmic executions.
