JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:

  • Creates service orders for a variety of customer requested projects such as connection of
overhead and underground services of 100 amp, 200 amp or 400 amp, non-CT metered services.,
etc; issues connection orders on behalf of, and as instructed by Distribution Design; manages
projects from inception to completion; enters new service data into the Geographic Information
System (GIS).

  • Completes Electric Services Orders (ESO) by entering various meter data, meter multipliers,
billing multipliers, billing information, meter reading routes/locations and related back billing
instructions. Establishes, maintains and deletes customer accounts. Provides an enquiry service
to internal and external customers on billing issues regarding service work. Investigates
discrepancies/errors and follows up with corrective action regarding service orders.

  • Issues ESOs and work orders for disconnections and reconnections, removals, alterations and
new connections incompliance with Distribution Standards, Electric Tariff, Secondary Voltage
Revenue Metering and be consistent with permits, billing, credit, security and other criteria.
Processes ESO and work order information following emergency and/or security activities initiated
by others.

  • Assists Contact Centre and Billing Operations by preparing billing related orders for
miscellaneous, in advance, standard, non-standard and other charges for BC Hydro and third-
party customers; tracks payment activity prior to releasing ESOs and work orders; informs
customers of payment requirements such as for call back and other charges.

  • Examines customer accounts in SAP and determines the need for creating new accounts and
required fees (such as identifying fees pending) based on established policy and guidelines;
advises customers accordingly.



  • Assists Distribution Design staff by issuing ESOs and work orders for a variety of other projects
such as: upgrading overhead transformers, etc; administers and raises work orders for new
facilities such as: traffic signals and street lighting; assists by tracking and reporting all information
for possible damage claims and information requests.

  • Maintains liaison between customers, municipal officials, contractors, line crews and other
utilities to explain policies, procedures and costs/rates related to an electric service request. May
be required to provide cautionary comments regarding safety issues to customers that are
involved in or making an application. Administers the contractor disconnection process such as
the Red Tag procedure.

  • Prepares, processes and maintains a variety of forms, documents, files, reports and summaries
related to distribution system records, statistics and activities including GIS record updating.

  • Preparing and revising a variety of plans, drawings and maps relating to the distribution system.

  • Collects information such as permits and declarations, releases for construction and monitors
the progress of work orders that have been initiated by others and performs a variety of duties
such as: routing work; responding to power quality complaints and aerial trespass problems;
informing customers of planned interruptions; processing and monitoring work orders related to
maintenance of plant, lines and poles; coordinating work with Line Department; providing and
receiving information related to requirements for rights-of-way; and processing and maintaining
records for flat rate accounts.

  • May be required to assist Distribution Design staff with billing and account information and
reviewing and issuing Design work orders for connections.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the
job.
Qualifications:

  • High school graduation with Physics 11, Math 12 and English 12.

  • Two (2) years of previous experience in a related Distribution or Customer Service job and one
(1) year of demonstrated working knowledge of BC Hydro’s distribution system, service
connection process and electrical code.

  • Completion of BC Hydro Express Connect training program (including completion of Electrical
Utility Fundamentals and BC Electrical Code courses or equivalent).

  • Some positions may be required to hold a valid class five (5) driver's licence.

  • If there are no fully qualified applicants, applicants may be considered for the Express Connect
training program.

  • If there are no applications that meet the required educational qualifications (Physics 11, Math
12 and English 12), applicants missing up to two (2) of these qualifications may be considered
next. Any missing education qualifications must be completed within one (1) year of being hired
into the role and prior to graduation from the Express Connect training program.

Working Conditions:
Majority of time is spent working at an office environment responding to incoming customer calls.
Occasional requirement to deal with upset customers. May be required to travel and provide relief
at various sites throughout the province for periods not normally exceeding 4 to 6 weeks.
Occasional field trips.

  • This is a Full Time Temporary opportunity for approximately 12 months with a possibility of a
contract extension.

  • Please note that although this position is classified as Remote, the successful candidate will be
required to work from the office until operational and training/performance requirements are met.
This can be discussed further during the interview process.

  • Applicants are asked to include a copy of their high school transcript to confirm completion of
Math 12, English 12 and Physics 11 when submitting their application. Proof of post-secondary
graduation that will satisfy equivalencies for above-noted courses will also be accepted. Only

  • A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain the following requirements in good
standing: Driver's License Type = Class 5

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home

based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for
each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time
from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
