Opportunity

DIVERSEcity is recruiting for a Regular, Part-Time position of Camp Facilitator. This position is responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of the Spring and Summer Camps for children, youth and their families. The Camp Facilitator will work in consultation with the DIVERSEcity staff and other local service providers to register children and youth for camps based on their identified needs. The Camp Facilitator will collaborate with the greater team in order to implement Camp activities that support the child participants to build self esteem, positive self identity, cultural diversity, rights and responsibilities, and connection to nature through play-based methodologies.

The ideal candidate for this role will be passionate about providing meaningful, engaging, culturally responsive activities for children and youth, be highly organized and able to develop relationships with families, staff members and service delivery partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and coordination in the planning, development, and administration of the various seasonal camps.
  • Collaborating with the camp staff, implement identified camp curriculum to meet the needs of the child and youth participants.
  • Facilitate the support of parents through referrals and connection to other DIVERSEcity staff members.
  • Working with camp staff to provide behavioural intervention and support for children to assist in their healthy development.
  • Communicate with families about the child’s participation, as needed.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment in which children can interact and play. Observe and removes potential hazards.
  • Maintains camp registrations, statistics and prepares program reports as required by funder and agency.
  • Keep informed of new developments in child development and middle childhood.
  • Attend program planning/review meetings, monthly team meetings, all staff meetings, and special meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A post-secondary degree in social services, humanities, or other relevant field of work and more than 2 years of relevant work in the community/social services sector.
  • Demonstrated leadership experienced in working with middle years children in a group setting
  • Demonstrated experience in developing adaptive and innovative group activities, in response to identified community needs.
  • Easily builds rapport and relationships with families and local service providers through genuine connection.
  • Experience working with diverse and multi-lingual groups.
  • Knowledge of refugee, newcomer, and migration challenges.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability, communication skills, discretion and judgement.
  • The ability to work collectively in a team environment.
  • Strong English language written skills and fluency in an additional language is an asset.
  • Strong organizational, time management, computer (MS Office, Teams) and database skills.
  • First Aid Certification required.

This position requires union membership. A Criminal Record Check is a requirement of employment.
