Facilities Manager (Head Groundskeeper)

Resourceful. Dependable. Outdoorsy. As the Facilities Manager at Southlands Riding Club, you will use your mechanical inclination, problem solving creativity and can-do attitude to champion a safe and enjoyable riding experience for our members, instructors, and competitors alike.

Southlands Riding Club (“SRC”) is a not-for-profit equestrian riding facility in South Vancouver. SRC hosts over 450 members on 18 acres of land, offering seven separate riding arenas and a ½ mile track. On any given day, 150 to 200 horses and riders use the facility for their professional, recreational, and training needs. SRC also has a horse rescue program with 4-5 horses living on the property.

What is in it for you:

- Competitive pay (based on experience)

- Employee benefit package including health and dental coverage

- SRC membership (if you are a rider!)

- Engaging, dynamic and relaxed team environment.

- Work primarily outdoors in a beautiful rural setting

- Be a catalyst in a significantly important period of improvement at SRC

Overview of the position:

Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for the aesthetic and maintenance of our grounds, the safety of our members and the overall sustainability of SRC where grounds are concerned.

You will also be responsible for managing teams and working with the SRC club staff during horse shows, clinics, and community events throughout the year.

This physically active role requires some heavy lifting, use of motorized machinery including tractors and mowers, use of woodworking equipment (drills, saws, etc.) and working with materials such as fertilizers, paints, etc. The ability to be flexible with respect to working hours and conditions is mandatory; the position duties and responsibilities – as well as working hours - vary from season-to-season, and are partially based upon special events such as horse shows, clinics, etc.

What you will be doing:

- Daily grooming and maintenance of riding rings and surfaces

- Field, lawn, and tree/shrub care

- Repairs and maintenance of facilities including fences, irrigation, lighting, minor woodworking projects, painting, planting, etc.

- Maintaining tractors and equipment as per manufacturer recommendations

- Scheduling general maintenance for the facility

- Ensuring a clean and safe working environment in the shop and on the grounds

- Managing part-time and/or contractual staff

- Ensuring optimal conditions at the club for our members and guests

- Collaborate with the General Manager to create budgets for grounds maintenance, capital expenses and special projects

- Oversee third party vendors, involved in grounds-related projects and work.

- Scheduling daily tasks to be completed in your absence; providing direction, objectives and expectations for persons working on SRC’s property; evaluating staff and vendor performance.

Your experience and skills

- At least five (5) years of experience in caring for grounds and facilities (landscaping, equestrian or golf club grounds crew, property management, farming, etc.).

- Must have a valid driver’s license in the province of BC.

- Ability to multitask multiple jobs

- Strong organizational skills and willingness to learn

Does this sound like you?

SRC is an inclusive organization, and our ambition is to attract, recruit and promote diverse talent. If you would make a great addition to our team, please email a short cover letter explaining why you are such a great match, along with your resume.
