As the Garden embarks on the implementation of a new Master Plan, the Facility Technician plays an important role in providing direction and expertise in the formation of the Infrastructure Master Plan.

Position Summary

The Facility Technician is responsible for the maintenance, monitoring and operation of UABG built assets, equipment, and building systems. This includes HVAC, plumbing, wastewater collection systems, water treatment and distribution systems, electrical and alarm systems, material handling including solid waste and recycling materials, and equipment fleet assets. The Facility Technician is also responsible for associated contractor management. On a daily basis, this position handles troubleshooting and performing minor repairs to components in the systems mentioned above, as well as acting as a point of contact for internal and external trades. The Facility Technician will work with the Manager of Horticulture and Infrastructure on creating long-term maintenance plans, and advise on future revitalization efforts.

Duties

Duties can include the following:
  • Engaging internal and external trades for repairs beyond scope
  • Responding to building alarms
  • Minor building repairs such as painting, patching drywall, weather stripping, troubleshooting minor plumbing and electrical issues
  • Monitor equipment and building assets to schedule maintenance

    Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid class 5 driver's license
  • First aid certification
  • High school diploma
  • Ability to work in accordance with Alberta OH&S code and regulations
  • Experience with building maintenance

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Building operator technology diploma
  • Fountains, pumps, and/or irrigation system operation experience
  • Small engine repair
