The Kikitak Housing Association is looking for a "Finance Officer".

The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) delivers the Public Housing Program to 25 Nunavut communities with a vision of ensuring affordable housing options for all Nunavummiut. The financial and professional resources provided for public housing services are made available through management agreements between the NHC and the Local Housing Organizations (LHO), of which the Kikitak Housing Association (KHA) is a part.

Located in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut, the KHA is responsible for providing public housing management and maintenance services and access to public housing and homeownership programs of the NHC. The KIKITAK HOUSING ASSOCIATION has a challenging opportunity for an individual with exceptional relationship building, training and mentoring, strong financial and communicational skills.

Your role as Finance Officer is the administration of the day-to-day financial operations of the KIKITAK HOUSING ASSOCIATION and includes working effectively with, and reporting to, the Kikitak Housing Association’s Manager. The Finance Officer is also responsible for the administration and maintenance of the KIKITAK HOUSING ASSOCIATION financial and related records.

As our ideal candidate for the role, you will also have the following knowledge and experience:

To maintain all Kikitak Housing Association accounting and financial records, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, etc. on the Sage ERP300 accounting and financial management program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(1) Maintain Kikitak Housing Association financial and employer records by:

- Using Sage ERP300 for all accounting activities, including AR, AP, payroll, financial statements, purchase orders, etc. and keeping the software up to date and backed up on a regular basis.
- Paying vendors based on back up including invoices, purchase orders, packing slips, contracts, work orders, etc.
- Invoicing tenants for rent based on the Household Income Form generated by the Rent Scale Program.
- Working with the Tenant Relations Officer to ensure tenant files are accurate and are consistent between the financial system and the rent scale program.
- Receipting tenant payments and ensuring money is secured in the safe provided.
- Completing bank reconciliations in a timely manner.
- Completing month-end accounting and preparing financial statements such as income statement, balance sheet, record of disbursements, etc.
- Monitoring budgets.
- Maintaining financial files including vendors, employees, tenants, contracts,
M & I, etc.
- Making regular bank deposits.
- Submitting payroll remittances to NEBS, WCB,GN, etc.
- Working with housing manager and other staff on year-end audit preparations.
- Recommending action to be taken against tenants for rental arrears and

- Working with the Housing Manager on collections.
- Training and mentoring current finance personnel.

(2) Other duties as required by the Housing Manager.

- Maintain and purchase office supplies and equipment.
- Act as receptionist and/or office manager when required.

(3). EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Provides the academic background and foundation
Accounting or Finance needed to perform the accounting duties.

Vast experience in Sage 300 ERP is essential for this position.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s To operate vehicles in the discharge of duties where
License required.

(4). SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to use computer including Minimum three years work experience.
Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher,
Outlook, PowerPoint, and Internet
Explorer.
Knowledge of generally accepted Minimum two years work experience. accounting principles.
Administrative/office experience. Minimum one year.

Accounting and/or bookkeeping Minimum three years. courses.
