Fruit & Vegetable Sales Agronomist, Bradford/Alliston/Shelburne area and the Collingwood area


Reporting to the Regional Sales & Account Manager, this opportunity leads the representation of the Bayer Fruit & Vegetable (F&V) portfolio within a local region through agronomic expertise and sales excellence.

  • Collaborating fully with the local Bayer commercial team, deliver consistent leading strategies and support for F&V that meet or exceed the needs of the unique horticultural farm customer group.
  • Cooperate with the other F&V Technical Sales Agronomists across Canada to help raise Bayer’s presence and position in this critical and specialized market through agronomy and sales support.
  • Work closely with Sales, Customer Marketing, Product Management, Field Solutions, Market Development and Digital Farming Solutions (DFS) to execute the F&V strategic priorities in Canada with our customers.

This is a permanent, home-based position which requires travel within the following areas it supports in Ontario: Bradford/Alliston/Shelburne area and the Collingwood area.


What you will do:


  • Lead F&V portfolio business in responsible geography and act as a core collaborative member of the local Bayer commercial team to plan, support and achieve business objectives
    • Create grower demand for Bayer F&V products and solutions through effective promotion and utilization of all available tools, programs and offers
      • Responsible for face-to-face relationship development of a defined list of key grower customers
    • Responsible for the aggregate sales budget for the F&V portfolio in the Territories/Regions supported
    • Support retail sales planning and execution of horticulture focused portfolio with key retails via direct collaboration with local sales team colleagues
      • Business planning duties will be either primary or secondary based on guidance of local RSAM
    • Develop appropriate business plans in concert with local Bayer TSM(s), DAS’s and relevant stakeholders to ensure connectivity and communication across business lines
    • Manage all product inquiries related to the F&V portfolio on horticultural crops in the territory
  • Lead F&V agronomic and technical product support, training and knowledge transfer in responsible geography to growers, key retails and agronomic influencers (e.g. agronomists, extension, processors)
    • Support new product launches, local agronomic and market development trials for knowledge transfer and portfolio awareness directly and through collaboration with retail and local F&V influencers
    • Share out technical product updates
    • Represent local business team when F&V expertise is required at grower demand events, tradeshows and other face-to-face promotional activities
    • Plan and deliver in-field live and virtual agronomic training for growers, key retails and agronomic influencers
    • Develop/grow/maintain communicative relationships with processors and other key industry stakeholders
    • Act as expert by key crop and/or crop group amongst FVSA team and with MDM – F&V (based in US)
    • Coordinate critical local market development in-field activities for F&V
      • Complete retail and 3rd party trial coordination as required
      • Execute Research Authorizations as required
      • Connect & align with MDM – F&V on key MD activities (Canada MD Lead and Director Commercial Operations may assign key contact for FVSA in Canada)
  • Build profile as F&V technical expert in responsible geography and within Bayer
    • Build presence with key growers, retails, and 3rd party consultants/influencers
    • Support content development for internal and external use, including marketing, agronomic and technical publications
    • Participate in industry events and organizations where appropriate
    • Create awareness with digital media as a technical expert for F&V Portfolio
    • Communicate position of IPM and CP resistance management strategies and other stewardship initiatives
    • Complete training and provide input for IPM strategies and other stewardship initiatives as needed
    • Fully participate and collaborate with Canadian F&V community at Bayer
  • Ensure full compliance with all Bayer policies including safety and driving policies
    • Complete safety and driving training as required
    • Report injuries and accidents as required

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree in an agriculture-related discipline, business, or appropriate related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant agriculture experience in agronomy, sales, marketing or technology (6 or more years are preferred)
  • Horticulture sales/agronomy experience is considered an asset
  • P. Ag., RT Ag or equivalent (a CCA may be considered as an alternative); and a CCSC
  • Demonstrated and repeated results through excellence in collaboration and customer focus
  • Experience with cross functional and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to quickly build strategic relationships and influence customer behavior (internal and external)
  • Agility in communication approach to effectively interact with organizations or individuals, while balancing and building the dynamics of each relationship (customer focus)
  • Ability to speak to company practices as it relates to current and future products as well as corporate initiatives ongoing
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking capability in prior experience (using business insights to project decisions)
  • Demonstrate digital fluency with latest industry tools and a track record of making decisions using data to grow the business
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, communication, and conflict management skills
