Position Description

We are inviting applications for the position of Vice-Principal at North Peace Secondary School effective August 1st, 2023. We will be accepting applications until March 10th, 2023 at 12:00 noon (MST).

Nestled in the beautiful traditional territory of the Dane-zaa People, North Peace Secondary School, is a vibrant, dynamic and diverse school community of two campuses with more than 1300 learners enrolled as of September 2022. Included in the population of our school community are more than 200 Indigenous learners from the three local First Nations communities, as well as Métis, Inuit, and other First Nations communities. In addition, we have a large community of International learners and recent immigrants from outside and within Canada. We are looking for an individual with the following attributes:

Your personal integrity is unquestioned. People see you as a calm and confident individual who has the highest level of self-regulation. Your decision-making process is thoughtful, collaborative and informed.

You have a proven history of strong instructional ability and experience teaching/leading at the secondary level. You enjoy working with young people and collaborating with your colleagues to improve learning for students. You have experience and knowledge to share around Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and effective assessment practices. You are engaged with and support your school Framework for Enhancing Student Learning.

You have a good sense of humor, patience and the capacity to deal with ambiguity. You like to have fun!

You are willing and able to fulfill the significant time and energy commitment required for this role. You understand that some evening/weekend work as well as attendance at various school events outside of school time are an essential part of the leadership at a large secondary school.

You demonstrate the highest level of organizational skills in your daily work and the ability to organize large-scale events. Your ease with technology tools allows you to be both effective and efficient in your work.

You have strong communication and interpersonal skills. You see working with parents as an important part of providing sound educational services to students. Your communication structures/tools are timely, meaningful and provide for feedback – from colleagues, students and parents. Your professional relationships with colleagues allow you to support them as well as have difficult conversations that keep student success at the forefront. Your written communication is professional and clear. Your door is open.

Planning and resources are viewed through a lens of equity. You have the pulse on vulnerable students in your classroom/school and support all students through their SEL and academic goals. You have a particular interest in improving educational outcomes for Indigenous students. You are committed to supporting anti-racism and anti-discrimination programs and activities.

You have a collaborative teaching/leadership style and approach. You put thought and time into contributing to a dynamic classroom/school team. You have positive and collaborative relationships with your colleagues, including with your school leadership.

Compensation

$2,000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4,000 for teachers from other areas

Salary is dependent on Experience and Education. Current annual salary range is $126,000 - $133,000
