This position is open to currently registered Masters and PhD students at the University of Regina. The student will assist with a national research project entitled “Expressions of Métis Spirituality and Religion Across the Métis Homeland.”
This project is led by Dr. Chantal Fiola (University of Winnipeg) with support from Dr. Emily Grafton (University of Regina), Dr. Paul Gareau (University of Alberta), and the Métis Rupertsland Centre for Métis Research). Project deliverables include hosting 2-day land-based gatherings in Métis communities and 1-day academic symposia across the Prairie.

The successful candidate will:
  • Collaborate with all research team members across the Prairies
  • Work directly with Indigenous community members, and elders (at times in a capacity as Elder’s Helper)
  • Conduct high-level and complex academic research and literature searches
  • Recruit research participants
  • Collect, manage research data, conduct advanced analysis of results, document findings
  • Manage project data (across multiple communities, universities, provinces)
  • Help organize Métis community land-based gatherings, academic symposia, community visits
  • Perform financial duties (track national budget; administer payroll; identify and assist in securing funding opportunities; prepare and submit documentations required by funding agencies)
  • Participate in dissemination activities
  • Contribute to overall activities and internal operations related to the research project
  • Perform other duties, including administrative support, as required or assigned
Position Requirements
  • Applicants are required to be a currently registered Masters or PhD student at the University of Regina
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort with making telephone calls to locate information
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Access to a computer for work-at-home arrangements
  • Proficiency with locating journal articles and other academic literature
  • Proficiency with location official reports and statistics (e.g., Statistics Canada databases)
  • Ability to synthesize themes from a wide range of literature
