Job title: Grants Specialist

Reports to: Director, International Programs

Type of employment: Full-time, 2-year contract

Job location: Burlington, Ontario or Ottawa, Ontario (open to qualified remote candidates that are eligible to work in Canada)

Institutional Funding Development

Monitor and identify funding opportunities from the Government of Canada, primarily development funding. This can range from overseeing the analysis of funding trends to ensuring a strong knowledge of donor priorities, to name a couple.
Lead the planning, development, and submission of funding applications, particularly for development funding. This includes managing the coordination across the Islamic Relief offices regarding funding applications, ensuring technical input and review ranging from financial to sector specialists and regional coordinators, as well as ensuring quality control prior to submission.
Contribute to building Islamic Relief’s capacity to manage grants and incorporate best practices in program implementation. This includes leading capacity-building activities relevant to institutional funding across country teams, including identifying needs and developing country or thematic-specific institutional development plans.
Ensure compliance with Islamic Relief policies, donor requirements, and Canadian charity regulations. For example, oversee the coordination with the Finance Department regarding the receipt of funds and compliance with donor financial management policies.

Partnership & Grant Management

Engage in institutional donor relationship building throughout the year, whether in Canada or in other countries.
Facilitate opportunities, as required, for country teams to partake and lead in relationship building.
Coordinate across departments at Islamic Relief Canada, such as the Communications and Government Relations Department, to ensure an effective organizational approach to institutional funding and related engagement.
Represent IR Canada at in person and online events, when required.
Coordinate within the program department and with global regional managers/specialists in managing grants, including finalizing and submitting reports or information as requested by donors.

Qualifications and Requirements

At least four years of program and partnership management experience, including proven experience in MEAL and/or multi-year program development
Proven experience of coordinating the development of funding applications, particularly for Global Affairs Canada
Ability to work tight deadlines and under pressure
Ability to consistently take initiative and be pro-active
Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well in a culturally diverse environment and negotiate with partners and donors
Strong written and organizational skills, including time management and prioritization
Feel comfortable traveling, including to insecure areas, and have the ability to travel at short notice

Must be eligible to work in Canada and be available to work flexible hours, when required. Please note travel encompasses approximately 20 to 25% of the role in any given year.
