About Bench Brewing:

Located in the heart of Niagara’s wine country, the Bench brewery is located on the site of the historic Maple Grove Public School in Beamsville, Ontario. Our brewery is a place for our guests to relax, learn, and experience the craft of brewing beer. The Bench Brewing campus sits across eight beautiful acres of farmland and features a 50hL brewing system, a tap and tasting room, a beer garden, a ‘funk house’ for our wild ale and barrel fermentation program, and our very own hops field. Bench is a certified B Corporation and strives to be a leader in sustainability, having achieved a zero-wastewater footprint and Carbon Neutral certification by Radicle Climate Smart.

The Role:

Reporting to the Director of Brewing & Beverage Operations, the Head Brewer plays an integral part of the day-to-day production operations at Bench. The successful candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience in a fast paced and innovative craft brewery.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead and manage our team of brewers
  • Oversee beer & beverage production from grain to BBT in three brewing spaces: clean side, funk side & pilot system
  • Ensure processes are followed to deliver consistent, high-quality beer to the packaging team
  • Support the integration of new equipment, technology, and processes to improve product quality, efficiency, brewery capacity, brewer safety etc.
  • Be a safety role model and work with the JHSC and the Operations Team to implement safety improvements and drive safety culture
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to continuously improve processes at our brewery
  • Ensure all brewing processes and related inventory movement is captured in our ERP system
  • Responsible for coordinating maintenance for brewing equipment
  • Drive sustainability initiatives in the brewing department, including side-streaming and water reduction for our wastewater system
  • Work within established budgets and provide documentation for financial record keeping
  • Be an ambassador for Bench Brewing Company - support tours & training, connect with customers, participate in events etc.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years professional brewing experience
  • 3+ years leadership/management experience
  • Other beverage alcohol (cider/wine/spirits) or non-alcohol experience is an asset
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance many tasks simultaneously
  • A continuous improvement mindset and a proven track-record in collaborative problem solving
  • Flexibility and the ability lead through change
  • Passion for our beer, our brewery & sustainability
