Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator, the Ice Maker II is a reliable, energetic, self-motivated individual, who
is able to work with limited supervision among diverse facility users. The successful candidate must effectively
communicate with co-workers and the general public, providing information, direction and supervision to various
user groups.

Throughout the ice season: In addition to preparing and maintaining facilities throughout the Arena, the Ice Maker
II will undertake regular custodial and event tasks, ensuring the security and safety of the guests and premises

During the off season: During summer season (April-August) reporting to Public Works Management, this
individual must be reliable, energetic, self-motivated and able to work in a team and independently as required.
The successful candidate will perform manual labour in all areas of Public Works. They must meet the physical
demands of the potion and comply with safe work practices.

to carry out multiple tasks or projects at the same time

  • Responsibility – the incumbent will be empowered to be a caretaker and decision –maker of
facilities with minimal supervision



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and operate refrigeration plant, arena ice and related equipment
  • Maintain and repair facility and related equipment
  • Perform set-up/take down duties for events
  • Supervise facility users
  • Semi-skilled maintenance projects (painting, refinishing floors etc.)
  • Perform skate shop duties, including rental sharpening
  • Provide first aid as necessary
  • Report hazards and make recommendations to enhance building and equipment functionality
  • Other related duties as assigned



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12 or GED
  • BC Refrigeration Operator Certificate (Minimum Class 5)
  • WHMIS Certification
  • Standard First Aid, CPR-C, AED
  • Valid BC Driver’s license (Class 5)


REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience in ice making an asset
  • Experience in operating ice resurfacing and skate sharpening equipment an asset
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction
and repair activities related to municipal infrastructure.
  • Skill in the operation of tools and equipment, such as mowers, tractors, hand tools and gas, diesel
or air powered tools.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to follow safe work practices and procedures
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a clean Criminal Record Check


FITNESS REQUIREMENT:
  • Must be able to perform heavy manual labour in all weather conditions
  • Manual dexterity
  • Full range of body movement required for job responsibilities
