PRIMARY FUNCTION

Provision of infant hearing screening to newborns including both well babies and babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit prior to discharge from the Kingston Health Sciences Centre, KGH site

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE:
  • Informs new parents/guardians about the Infant Hearing Program (IHP) ,reviews screening options and obtains consent
  • Performs hearing screening tests on each newborn as prescribed by the Provincial IHP Protocol for Hospital Screeners
  • Record results for IHP data tracking, faxes forms to KFL&A, tubes originals to lab for courier to newborn Screening Ontario (NSO)
  • Communicates with nursing staff and unit clerks as required.
  • Checks and maintains screening equipment, accessories and supplies.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Grade 12 Secondary School Diploma
  • Post- Secondary Education in Health Care Field
  • 1-2 years direct patient care experience in a health care setting is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to chart in patient record
  • Aptitude for learning and operating screening equipment
  • Proven good attendance record
  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check required.
