Scope of Work:

Innu Inuit Redpath Limited Partnership (IIR) will be the primary contractor on an underground mine infrastructure construction project located on the east coast of Labrador, approximately 350 km north of Goose Bay. Mine infrastructure requirements include the following for both the Reid Brook & Eastern Deeps Mines: ore sizing & conveyor systems, mine dewatering systems, ventilation control installations, paste backfill reticulation systems, underground maintenance, fuel/lube & wash bays, refuge stations, and underground electrical power distribution.


Future mining from the two separate underground deposits will extend the life of this operation for at least another decade. Both deposits contain Nickel, Copper & Cobalt; at peak production, 2.54 million tons will be mined annually.


Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent, the Underground Millwright/Welder is responsible for direct or indirect support of mining operations by assuming responsibility for the maintenance, repair and manufacturing of all metal structures, both underground and on the surface, related to production.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Component assembly of the stationary equipment (pumps, motors, conveyors and muck handling systems)
  • Fabrication and equipment repair
  • Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes
  • Maintenance, repair and manufacturing of all metal structures both for underground and on surface
  • Detect and troubleshoot irregularities and malfunctions
  • Ensure that all installation processes meet company quality standards
  • The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Trades Qualification Certificate as a journeyperson/certified Millwright OR Welder (Required)
  • Minimum of 3 years recent related experience as a journey-level Millwright or Welder, preferably in an underground mine setting
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

Health and Safety:

  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to the supervisor
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Work in accordance with local legislation
