This position is responsible for assisting classroom instructors in the performance of their duties by performing a wide variety of duties including preparing/maintaining instructional materials and supplies, setting up classroom demonstrations, overseeing students and providing other general clerical support.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assists instructors in the operation of courses; prepares, sets up and assists with classroom demonstrations and/or events; prepares instructional support material; supervises and assists students with lab projects; and marks student assignments/examinations as required.
  • Monitors, maintains and orders inventory of program supplies. Conducts periodic inventory counts.
  • Issues equipment and supplies to students and instructors and maintains storage areas in a clean, orderly and safe fashion.
  • Provides assistance to customers as necessary, answers questions and accepts orders.
  • Performs quality control of all products ensuring specifications meet established requirements.
  • Provides general administrative support, inputs data into the computer system, creates and maintains schedules.
  • May prepare purchase and requisitions orders and assist with receiving and processing of inventory supplies.
  • Provides coverage for other Instruction Assistants during vacations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Grade 12 including Grade 12 English, Mathematics and computer/keyboarding skills and Journeyman’s Red Seal certificate, Cook’s trade qualification and 4 years’ related industry experience or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.


Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and outside customers.
  • Good organization and time management skills skills with the ability to prioritize and manage several time-sensitive issues at any given time. Works effectively in fast-paced, physically active and generally stressful environment.
  • Ability to function professionally, pleasantly and efficiently during periods of high stress.
  • Knowledge of procedures, techniques and methodologies of classroom management involved in providing instruction support services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program content and instructional material.
  • Sound knowledge of classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to effectively assist instructors with lab and classroom set-up and demonstrate techniques as requested.
  • Ability to relieve supervisors of routine day-to-day administrative matters.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English.
  • Computer experience with proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to lift up to 20kg.


Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE
PAYGRADE 22: $26.81 to $31.40 hourly, plus payment in lieu of vacation and statutory holidays.
