Instructor - ABE/ELL Pathways to Health Services (Kitimat & Hazelton)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Kitimat and Hazelton campuses, invites applications for a term Instructor to teach Career & College Preparation (CCP) courses (as outlined below) for the ABE/ELL Pathways to Health & Human Services program (subject to enrolment and funding). Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale.

Duties: The Instructor(s) will be responsible to facilitate learning for students, ensuring successful completion of courses (outlined below) for the ABE/ELL Pathways to Health & Human Services program. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students as well as completing the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities.

  • Winter 2023 Semester (January 9 to April 28, 2023): English 11 and Math 030, Education and Career Planning 050 (120 instructional hours per course)
  • Spring/Summer 2023 Semester (May 1 to August 18, 2023): English 12, Math 11, Biology 12, and OFCE 114 – Computer Applications (120 instructional hours per course)

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a directly related discipline
  • A Provincial Teaching Certificate or a Provincial Instructor's Diploma
  • A Master’s Degree in a related discipline or in Adult Education is preferred
  • Teaching experience in an Adult Basic Education / Career and College Prep program (preference will be given to those with experience teaching Advanced/Provincial levels) is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to motivate and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities, is an asset
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

The successful applicant will possess a broad range of content knowledge, confidence and experience in the subject areas. As a team player and learner-centered instructor, experience should demonstrate excellent group facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills.
