Intern, Barge Operations & Maintenance

Seaspan Marine is the largest and most diverse tug & barge company on Canada’s West Coast. Our services include Ship Docking, Tanker Escort & Emergency Towing and Tug & Barge Services. We also offer ship bunkering and ship building & repair through our affiliated companies. Seaspan Marine has over 30 tugboats and the most modern, powerful fleet on Canada’s West Coast. Our extensive fleet of over 100 specialty and general-purpose barges provide critical transportation for many of BC’s largest industries. This a unique opportunity for a young professional that provides a deeper exposure to the marine industry and work with our marine technical department.

The successful applicant for this internship will work closely with our Barge Operations and Maintenance departments to optimize accessibility of existing asset technical documents and work instructions for our diverse fleet of barges.

What you'll do:

  • Review drawings and technical files specific to Seaspan’s existing fleet of barges under the guidance of our technical team and build out a data base.
  • Work with the Operations and Maintenance teams to implement improvements with the data base and its accessibility.
  • Integrate key documents from the data base into a companywide SharePoint site.
  • Assist with the reviewing and updating work instruction specific to our existing assets.

What you'll bring:

  • Enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering post-secondary degree program.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in the Marine Industry is an asset
  • Strong organizational skills and proficient with computers
  • Work well in a team environment as well as being disciplined to work independently.
  • Understanding requirements that they would be regularly visiting vessels and different areas of our maintenance and shipyard facilities.
